Job Description

Supplier Quality Engineer Salary £30 -£35K DOEExcellent Company Benefits PackageA leading manufacturer in Plymouth are looking to recruit a Supplier Quality Engineer to join the existing Quality Engineering team. In this role you will be responsible for evaluating, monitoring and the continuous improvement of supplier quality by applicationof industry best practices, development of key supplier relationships and working cross-functionally.The primary aim of this position is to provide quality, technical and project support to suppliers, focusing new suppliers on company requirements and quality planning on new parts.Making improvements that result in the achievement of Quality, Delivery, Cost and Development targets in line with the Purchasing and Quality Strategies.The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, data driven, extremely flexible and tenacious, further training will be provided to the right candidate.This role is ideal for an existing Production, Process, Metrology, Quality Engineer, or an existing relative Technician level person to progress into a more senior position within a progressive, high technology organisation.Essential Skills and Experience

  • Engineering and/or Manufacturing/Production experience.
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Working within a supply chain environment and/or with supplied / bought out finish products.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional metrology instruments and equipment, ability to read and understand Engineering/Design drawings and basic knowledge of metallurgy and materials technology.
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 5 years working within a Quality or Supply Chain background.
  • Recognised qualification in Metrology / Quality / Mechanical Engineering or a recognised qualification to a minimum level of 4 or 5 (HNC or HND).
  • Core Tools trained /experience (PPAP/APQP).
  • Audit Qualification (or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy and materials testing, standards relevant to metrology & calibration and conducting & hosting audits.
Key Role ResponsibilitiesTo ensure that suppliers to the company comply with the requirements of recognised standards, the company SQA Manual and QCD performance expectations.
  • To evaluate and support the selection of new suppliers and to use APQP & PPAP to introduce new/localised parts.
  • To drive continual improvement in performance at targeted suppliers to achieve overall supplier ppm reduction, prevention of repeat issues and permanent countermeasures for severe issues
  • To ensure that suppliers of existing and new/changed products plan and control their processes effectively
  • To lead supplier development activities and conduct site assessments and audits
  • To work at all appropriate levels within suppliers organisations
  • To improve suppliers systems, drive continuous improvements in their manufacturing processes, including use of structured problem solving approaches
  • To review process documentation (FMEA, Control Plan, process capability) for new and existing products
  • To provide support to Purchasing and NPI teams at new suppliers or for new products
  • To support suppliers by technical liaison
Training and Personal Development
  • On the job training for the use of metrology and metallurgical equipment will be provided.
  • Other development training opportunities will be available subject to discussions
  • External training will be provided as and when required.
