Job Description

Quality Engineer£30-35k DOEWe are seeking a Quality Engineer to join our existing Quality Engineering team. The ideal candidate must be enthusiastic, data driven, extremely flexible and tenacious, additional training will be provided to the right candidate.This role is ideal for an existing Production, Process, Metrology or Quality Engineer, or for an existing Technician level person to progress into a more senior position within a progressive organisation.Essential Skills and Experience

  • Some form of Engineering and/or Manufacturing/Production experience
  • Working knowledge of dimensional metrology instruments and equipment
  • Good problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to read and understand Engineering/Design drawings
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and materials
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Minimum 3 years working within a Quality background
  • Recognised qualification in Metrology / Quality / Mechanical Engineering or A recognised qualification to a minimum level of 4 or 5 (HNC or HND)
  • Core Tools trained /experience (PPAP/APQP)
  • Internal Audit Qualification (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy and materials testing, standards relevant to metrology & calibration and conducting & hosting audits
Core Responsibilities
  • To actively support the implementation, maintenance, performance and improvement of the Quality Management System by applying appropriate quality tools and techniques.
  • To work independently and as a team member in conducting Quality Engineering activities.
  • To work in line with company Quality, Safety and Environmental Policies, Procedures and Instructions.
  • To identify performance trends and potential and actual non-conformances in products and processes through data gathering, analysis, monitoring and auditing.
  • Decision making: To stop production, drive containment action and take corrective or preventive action. To ensure effective and timely defect management.
  • To propose and implement robust and cost effective solutions and improvements.
  • To carry out audits, inspections, measurements and tests in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Clear, concise, accurate and data driven reporting of results, trends actions and progress.
  • To develop effective relationships with other team members and departments, suppliers and customer personnel as appropriate to facilitate product and service quality.
  • To provide training support and to overcome barriers to quality improvement.
Supplier Quality
  • Carry out new supplier evaluation and selection visits, process audits on new or existing suppliers, including follow up audits on concerns and countermeasures, and confirmation of traceability
  • Coordinate supplier APQP for new suppliers or new or changed parts
  • Reduction in supplier ppm through visits, problem solving and driving progress of action plans towards QCD targets
  • Liaison with production on containment and resolution of live issues
  • Analysis of individual supplier and commodity trends, identification of potential issues, liaison between suppliers and production functions to drive improvements
  • Develop the suppliers towards best practice
  • Maintain supplier PPAP status
  • Develop the SQA system, manual and procedures in conjunction with Quality and Purchasing management and strategy
  • Communication at all levels within supplier and with company members
Customer Acceptance
  • Inspect products at end of line in accordance to Customer Criteria
  • Adhere to the CAL S.O.P. with regards to acceptance of products
  • Identify any non-conformances and effectively communicate to relevant Area Supervisor and QA Engineer
  • Assist, where possible in identifying corrective actions to eliminate non conformances
  • Collect and record inspection results for all products checked at CAL
  • Effectively identify and separate non-conforming products for further inspection or rework
  • File test results for each product
  • Assist in other end of line activities as and when required
