Job Description

Metrology Engineer£35-40K DOEAn opportunity has arisen to join one of the areas leading manufacturers, offering a great working environment, ongoing personal development and a an excellent benefits package.In the role you will primarily be the subject matter expert for all metrology related activities on site. This will be achieved by leading the metrology team in determining, setting, and implementing strategies to support best practice in the measurementof product and calibration of gauges. This role is ideal for an existing Metrology or Quality Engineer to progress into a more senior position within a progressive organisation.Essential Skills / Experience

  • Engineering manufacturing experience
  • Working knowledge of standards relevant to metrology & calibration and the
  • Working knowledge of dimensional metrology instruments and equipment
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings
  • Working knowledge of conducting and hosting audits
  • Leadership or supervisory experience
  • A recognised qualification to a minimum level of 4 or 5 (HNC or HND)
  • Basic knowledge of metallurgy and materials testing
Desirable Skills / Experience
  • Recognised qualification in Metrology
  • Qualifications in Mathematics and English
  • A recognised qualification to a minimum level of 6 or above (Degree)
  • Core Tools trained /experience (PPAP/APQP)
  • Leadership or supervisor training.
  • Working knowledge of CMM programming. Preferably Mitutoyo.
  • Internal Audit Qualification (or equivalent)
  • Working knowledge of metallurgy and materials testing
Staff Management Responisibilities
  • Quality Technicians & Metrology Engineers
  • Lead the team through effective communication, coaching & recognition.
  • Undertake appraisals, performance management and identify training needs.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of Metrology Technicians/Engineers in achieving departmental and strategic business objectives including organising workloads relative to projects being run within the business.
  • Apply measurement science to develop, document, and maintain processes to achieve best practice standards, ensuring value for money, effectiveness, and efficiency across the production facility
  • Provide the organisation with non-discriminatory reports for independent functions to review and draw conclusions.
  • Work in a safe manner - adhere to all company Health and Safety requirements, promote this through the team.
  • Comply with and promote compliance with the Quality Management System.
  • Apply measurement science to develop, maintain, and evaluate calibration standards; implement improvements as required
  • Ensure the timely completion of gauge calibration - monitor performance (KPI) and address if out-of-control
  • Ensure measurement of product is completed in a timely and accurate manner against appropriate specifications using appropriate means and methods
  • Manage measurement reports including the standards and maintain traceability of all samples and records
  • Act as sign-off for metrology activities for sample approval
  • Determine and advise on new metrology technologies or equipment
  • Manage and maintain MSA system for equipment used to verify production processes
  • Assist with completing PPAP documentation as required by QA
  • Provide training when required to develop others
  • Support Goods-in inspection - including periodic checks of castings and forgings to ensure on-going supply chain conformance
  • Where necessary, provide metrology support and guidance to suppliers to ensure robust measurement systems are in place
  • Develop correlation of measurement systems across the group.
  • Continually look to enhance our measurement systems via new techniques & technology including the integration into the process.
  • Implement local level measures to review and continually improve both personal and functional goals.
Training and Personal Development
  • If required, on the job training for the use of metrology and metallurgical equipment will be provided.
  • Other development training opportunities will be available subject to discussions.
