Here at HM Land Registry we have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Data Scientist to join our team based at any of our 14 office locations.Joining on a Full/Part time or Job share basis you will receive a competitive salary of £52,667 per annum (Croydon £56,694). Our existing software systems form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion, enabling over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.We are currently consolidating our Data Science activity into a formal Practice. By joining us, you will become a founding member of our Data Science Practice, part of our award-winning Digital, Data and Technology Directorate which is at the heart of the move to a digital, data-driven organisation. Our ambitions are to provide our users with cutting-edge digital services and data products.Responsibilities of our Lead Data Scientist include:You will help build our specialist capability to extract insight from a wide variety of datasets and enhance our ability to innovate, in response to user needs, as we develop data driven services and value-added data products.You will have opportunities to work on a diverse range of programmes and projects across our Transformation Portfolio. You will use your leadership experience to build specialist technical teams, and your curiosity, technical ability and problem solving skillsets to support and enable our Delivery teams, and other Subject Matter Experts, to solve problems across the organisation using tools, techniques and approaches from Data Science.As a member of the Data Science Practice you might be involved in hyper automation of our existing systems using Deep Learning techniques to identify and extract information from digital imagery; enhancing and developing our Registers by interrogating and mining our free text data stores using Natural Language Processing; improving user journeys though our services by building recommender systems; developing intelligent tools to identify and counter fraudulent Property transactions; helping to understand our customers; or increasing value for our users, and the wider market sector, by conceptualising and building innovative new data services, products and tools.What we’re looking for in our Lead Data Scientist:Lead Data Scientists will provide specialist leadership to develop the functional areas within our Practice:- Information extraction from unstructured sources- Knowledge base construction and insight mining- Data Science product innovation & developmentLead Data Scientists will also bring expert level practical Data Science skills, technical knowledge, and collaborative ways of working to the Practice in order to help support the delivery of analytical Data Science projects and solutions across HMLR.If you have strong Data Science leadership experience coupled with expert practical skills and technical abilities in one (or more) of the following subject specialisms, we’d welcome an application from you:- Text/NLP,- Geospatial,- Computer Vision/Digital Imagery,- Knowledge graph construction, mining and inference,- Data visualisation and interactive exploration.Benefits of becoming our Lead Data Scientist: We offer very competitive terms, conditions and benefits.
