Job Description

We need a temporary Student Finance Officer for an East London College.Hourly Rate - £14.00ph payeClose & Frequent Transport LinksAsap Start until End of March 2023Advice, Information and GuidanceInform, advise and support students and prospective students onfinancial issues affecting their participation in college life such as:-

  • Grants and finance for Further Education
  • Social security benefits
  • Charities and educational trusts
  • Immigration and residence status
  • Childcare
  • Debt/money management
  • Student travel schemes
Deliver
  • Drop-in clinics
  • Confidential 1:1 advice sessions
  • Group sessions for tutor groups
  • Presentations and events
  • Individual support and training sessions for tutors and student services staff
Liaison closely with all academic and support staff as appropriate, particularly tutors and other members of the student services team. Ensure that students financial support needs are met, accepting referrals and referring students onto other sources of support where appropriate.
  • Actively promote financial support to students a range of methods including leaflets, websites, events, notice boards and group talks to ensure all students have equal access to the support available.
  • Create and maintain links with a comprehensive range of local and national support agencies (for example, government departments and citizens advice bureau) and refer students to these agencies as necessary. Identify opportunities for partnership workingwith appropriate outside agencies.
Information Management
  • Provide and maintain up-to-date information resources relating to student finance and immigration in a range of formats.
  • Underpin financial information, advice and support with relevant and up-to-date information, gathered through research, training events and regular updating via local and national networks and information sources. Keep up-to-date with changes in studentsupport regulations, social security benefits and immigration issues.
  • Inform tutors, student services colleagues and senior managers of changes in student finance issues as appropriate.
Financial Support< >Administration of the Learner Support Fund (LSF), including:Promotion of appropriate financial support availableAdministration of the Free School Meals SchemeDevelop and administer college guidelines and processes for the distribution of LSF forstudents, in line with government and other external initiatives and funding methodology< >Process student applications and eligibility for LSFAllocation and payment of LSFPrepare payroll for student paymentsAccurate data recording and updating of system recordsPrepare and manage support within the ILR. Keep up to date with funding regulations.Attendance MonitoringUndertake all administration relevant for the College Bursary Care to Learn and Oyster card and any additional support schemes, ensuring that all the relevant student information is accurate and sent to the appropriate agency in a timely manner. Supportstudents to apply for these schemes and deal with any queries relating to eligibility, applications, payments and attendance.Only apply with experience from College or Sixth-Form setting.All applicants will be required to register and have an enhanced DBS in place to be considered for the position.
