The GSK Oncology vision is to maximize the survival of cancer patients by delivering transformational medicines alone or in combination. Importantly, Oncology represents one of the most heavily invested and innovative therapy areas across the Life Sciences and Healthcare industry. The field is evolving at an unprecedented pace. In addition to in-house discovery and development, GSK is committed to leveraging Business Development as tool to secure access to this external innovation and to help shape the portfolio and deliver the vision of GSK Oncology. In this role you will play a pivotal role in delivering this vision for GSK and patients.Reporting to the VP Immuno-Oncology, the role can be based in the U.S. at either of our Philadelphia, PA based locations or in the Boston Area or in the EU at our London, UK or Zug, Switzerland locations.This role gives YOU the opportunity to lead key activities to progress YOUR career. These responsibilities include some of the following:

  • Develop strategic plans/insights to support the building of business cases for external BD opportunities.
  • Define potential portfolio fits and areas of unmet need that align with GSK disease area strategies.
  • Develop and help assess commercialization opportunities for external assets and partnerships.
  • Be the key point of contact within the Global Oncology Commercial Team for the Business Development team to determine potential opportunities.
  • You will ensure the development of a differentiated commercial strategy by fulfilling the following:
  • Aligning priorities with the Oncology Business Development Team to determine areas for assessment. Delivering insightful generation of commercial insights, by applying flexible thinking to integrate and consolidate insights from multiple disciplines and geographic perspectives to generate options for key project decisions.
  • Driving insightful sequencing of indications and patient segments. Applies rigorous approach to ensure a consistent way of sequencing indications and helping inform BD Search / Evaluation priorities.
  • Fostering effective partnering across the organization. Setting an expectation in the team of connection and collaboration with key partners e.g. Commercial Analytics, Market Access & Pricing, VEO, and Epidemiology, CGA, and establishes standards of deliverables.
  • Applying a continuous improvement approach to ensure high quality of documentation. In his/her own managed Therapy Area, effectively synthesizes documents and communicates insights, key strategic recommendations and the rationale behind them.
  • Applying effective insights from the market and customers to inform portfolio prioritization, project strategy development and alignment. Leverages across portfolio organizational knowledge to access the collective Therapy Area expertise and experience to gain customer insight from patient, physician and payer for given medicine or disease strategy.
  • Leverage appropriate technologies, networks and Intelligence, to support effective BD Search and Evaluation Strategy
  • Why youBasic Qualifications: We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Previous experience working in pharmaceutical industry (major pharma or biotechnology), financial analysis with focus on biotech/pharma and/or business consulting.
  • Recent and adequate commercial/market place experience in pharma industry; especially in oncology
  • Experience and track record creating preliminary and full investment cases and communicating these to senior leaders (from one-to-one discussions to formal governance meetings)
  • Experience leading matrix teams, particularly where participants may be from more senior levels of the organization (VP/SVP level)
  • Preferred Qualifications: If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
  • MD/PhD/PharmD and/or MBA preferred
  • Competitive sets, treatment evolution for key tumor types, value drivers
  • Growing network in the pharma, biotechnology and venture capital community.
  • Evidence of strong and effective written and verbal communication
  • A demonstrated ability to autonomously manage workload and priorities and to reprioritize as the changing situation requires
  • Evidence of scientific and/or business rigor in thinking, intellectual agility and empathy.
  • Strategic thinking & entrepreneurial flair.
  • Demonstrable influencer of senior stakeholders.
