Job Description

The Position Launch Packaging Design is looking to recruit a packaging design engineer with a minimum of 2 years industry experience, for a client facing design role. The candidate must have a strong product design or design engineering background, be proficient withCAD, with a minimum of 2 years experience, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.Being a technical position, strong analytical skills including the ability to interpret and communicate technical briefs and concepts are essential, along with the ability to confidently discuss and solve technical problems internally with colleagues andexternally with clients and suppliers.Primarily the job role will see the Packaging Design Engineer support our US-based clients plastic packaging manufacturing operation with 3D structural design, engineering consultancy services, product data management, and quality control of 3D data and2D technical specification drawings. Given the client is based in the US, an adaptable and flexible approach to work is essential.In addition to this, as part of a small, multi-disciplinary packaging design agency, the successful candidate will be expected to work on a wide variety of structural and technical packaging design projects including glass packaging projects. The Company Launch Packaging Design Limited is a small, well-established creative and technical packaging design agency. We specialise in the 3D structural design of bottles and other related packaging, providing creative and technical packaging design and technicalconsultancy services to some of the worlds biggest consumer brands and packaging design agencies.We bridge the gap between the aesthetic design and styling services offered by most creative design agencies, and the principally technical approach adopted by many manufacturers. Duties and Responsibilities Duties

  • Designing and/or modification of structural packaging and related components using CAD software (primarily CATIA), considering technical requirements, consumer appeal, environmental impact, and cost effectiveness, to meet client aesthetic and business goals
  • Providing technical packaging consultancy, including but not exclusively the technical analysis of client briefs
  • Managing clients product data including quality control
  • Communicating with clients (primarily email and phone based) throughout the development of a given project, to ensure all deliverables are met as required by the client
  • Communicating with other employees (face-to-face, online, email, and phone) to progress a given project and develop job-related skills

  • Working overtime when required to meet client deadlines
Qualifications, Skills and Experience Essential
  • 2 years experience working in product design or design engineering, however, structural packaging design training will be provided
  • 2 years experience of using CAD software (experience of any CAD system will be acceptable, as full CATIA training will be provided), including the production of technical drawings
  • Minimum of undergraduate degree level qualification - preferably at a minimum level of 2:1 although 2:2 candidates will be considered
  • Background in product design (BEng or BSc) or engineering discipline
  • Full computer literacy - familiarity with Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Technical problem solving and interpretation of technical briefs and concepts
  • The ability to work to tight deadlines
Desirable
  • Experience of product data management
  • Experience of quality control standards
  • Experience of the injection stretch blow moulding manufacturing process is desirable but not essential, as specific training will be provided. However, any knowledge and/or experience of glass or plastic production will also be desirable.
  • Experience of management of client accounts
  • Experience of FEA, including the reporting and interpreting of results
  • Occasional travel to the US for client site visits may be necessary, so the ability to travel to the US is desirable (COVID restrictions permitting).
  • Experience within structural packaging design and/or a related production sector (e.g. packaging design agency, other engineering sectors, product design) is desirable, although not essential as extensive training will be given
Location
  • Launch Packaging Design is based in two locations within the UK - Wakefield (the registered office for Launch Packaging Design) and Penarth
  • The place of work for this job will be the Penarth office, which is currently located in Penarth, Wales; the applicant would need to be able to work from this location, and work from home when required due to COVID restriction
