Job Description

If you’re successful and have worked outside the UK for any longer than three months in the last five years, we’d also need to complete a foreign DBS or code of conduct check.We now have an opportunity for an experienced speech and language therapy lead to join our amazing team at Bridge College!Bridge College in Openshaw, Manchester is a non-residential specialist FE college. We meet the needs of students up to the age of 25 years with learning difficulties and disabilities, complex needs, communication disorders and autism.As our speech and language therapy lead you will...Have a lead role in the management of dysphagia across the college. You will be expected to manage the Speech and Language therapy team under the direction of our clinical services manager. Be proactive to support the development of the service in college using our quality assurance processes, self assessment tools and quality improvement plans. Our therapy teams are an integral part of our college so it is important you work closely with all staff to ensure strategies are embedded across the curriculum.Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of students with complex communication needs and dysphagia
  • Initial assessment of students communication needs as well as eating and drinking skills of application to college
  • Lead processes and service delivery models
  • Provide advice to other therapists and families
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams /interpreters
  • You will demonstrate your knowledge in both theoretical and practical levels of current perspectives on communication and dysphagia along a sound understanding of clinical governance.
  • About you... You will hold a relevant degree/diploma in Speech and Language Therapy and be a current member of the Health Professionals Council and a full member with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. You will be passionate about making a difference within the college. You will commit to our ethos and values and be able to showcase this in your daily work. Working with an excellent team, together we want you to thrive whilst providing an excellent service to our students.You must have a post basic dysphagia qualification.Please see attached job description and person specification for full details of the role and criteria.Experience in working with adults with learning disabilities/ASC is essential as well as experience in delivering training and supervisory responsibilities.Candidates with a full, clean driving license are encouraged to apply.
