Job Description

Here at National Highways we are striving for excellence so if youre looking for a new opportunity to be part of high performing team in a progressive organisation please see below!Your new roleAs the Operational Technology Control Centre Systems SME you will plan and lead the development of current and future Control Centre systems. You will lead processes involved in the configuration of software and detail of coding.What youll be leading on

  • Provides input into the overall technology strategy from the current Dynac & Control Works perspective.
  • Works with and supports third parties in the delivery of new or updated infrastructure technologies.
  • Works with other Infrastructure Engineers and Technical Architects to ensure a single, strategic architectural philosophy across Control Centre systems
  • Delegated technical approval for the technology in question through the Technical Governance processes; ensuring that technologies follow specifications, risks are known and appropriately mitigated prior to integration into the live environment.
  • Influence procurement strategies to ensure that the end to end delivery of technology systems dont have unintended impacts on achieving planned future architectures.
To be successful
  • Expert understanding of the hazards of the road environment and the design decisions and methodologies that are deployed in mission-critical operational systems to meet strict safety, availability, resilience or latency related requirements
  • Expert knowledge of roadside environment specifications / standards and the interactions between technology requirements and legislative documentation such as the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges and the Traffic Signals Regulations, Guidance and Directives.
  • Experience across the particular technologies in use by Highways England; such as: NMCS2, CCTV(VIH), HATMS and CHARM.
  • Experience across the specific roadside technologies in use by Highways England and their history; such as Signs, Signals and MIDAS.
  • Experience of wider Intelligent Transport System technical frameworks such as: UTMC, NTCIP, DATEX2
  • Collaborate with others when necessary to review specifications and use these agreed specifications to design, code, test and document programs or scripts
