Job Description

Reed Education are seeking an Headteacher for a Specialist School in the Leyland area. This new role is a full-time and permanent position. It will start as soon as possible and will continue ongoing untilthe permanent positions are filled. The role is covering full time hours and is covering 5 days a week. This is a safe and inclusive school where pupils are encouraged to achieve their full potential.The main purpose of the role:The Head of School will be accountable for the day to day operational responsibility of the school and will have a leadership role in assisting the Principal to develop the school in accordance with its shared values and school development plans.Key duties and responsibilities:

  • Establish and sustain the schools ethos and strategic direction together with the Principal and governing board and through consultation with the school community
  • Establish and oversee systems, processes and policies so the school can operate effectively
  • Identify problems and barriers to school effectiveness, and develop strategies for school improvement that are realistic, timely and suited to the schools context
  • Make sure the school improvement strategies are effectively implemented
  • Allocate financial resources appropriately, efficiently and effectively
  • Undertake safeguarding duties supported by the Principal which will entail reporting and following up incidents in a timely manner and where appropriate liaising with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Create a culture where pupils experience a positive and enriching school life
  • Uphold educational standards in order to prepare pupils from all backgrounds for their next phase of education and life
  • Ensure a culture of staff professionalism and wellbeing
  • Continue to maintain and sustain high-quality teaching across all subjects and phases, based on evidence
  • Promote and model good relationships with parents and carers, which are based on partnerships to support and improve pupils attendance, well-being, learning and achievement
Skills, Qualifications and experience required:
  • Qualified Teacher status (QTLS or QTS)
  • Recent management/leadership training (Desirable)
  • Accredited training in specific areas of special education (Desirable)
  • At least 3 years successful and demonstrable leadership and management experience in a school
  • Experience of teaching in a specialist SEMH Environment.
  • Involvement in school self-evaluation and development planning
  • Demonstrable experience of successful line management and staff development
  • Experience of working with and involving school governors/trustees or executives
  • Data analysis skills, and the ability to use data to set targets and identify weaknesses
  • Understanding of high-quality teaching based on evidence, and the ability to model this for others and support others to improve
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships
  • Up to date knowledge of statutory regulations and guidance relating to the post including understanding of OFSTED requirements and latest developments in special education.
  • A commitment to getting the best outcomes for all pupils and promoting the ethos and values of the school
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritise effectively
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality at all times
  • Commitment to safeguarding and equality, ensuring that personal beliefs are not expressed in ways that exploit the positions
