Job Description

Working hours will be flexible to meet the needs of the service; your usual working hours are Monday to Friday 9am-5pm. However, this may include shift work, weekends and sleep in duties as required. The Registered Manager will participate in an on-callrota, offering support across all houses.XYZ House is a residential Children’s Home Located in ABC, Essex. XYZ House is registered to provide care and support for up to 4 young people of mixed gender. XYZ House is registered to provide care for young people who are described as having Emotionaland Behavioural Difficulties.The post holder will be expected to behave in accordance with the values, staff code of conduct, legal requirements and policies in place at XYZ House at all times.All Staff have a shared responsibility for safeguarding the children and young people in our care.Person Specification:Have a good knowledge and experience of law and practice relating to looked after children. Have business and management skills to manage the work efficiently and effectivelyHave financial expertise to ensure the home is run on a sound financial basis including long term financial viability of the home.A level 4 qualification relevant to working with children or A level 4 management qualification orUndertake the level 5 diploma within 6 months of commencing the role and complete it within 3 years 2 years experience relevant to residential care within the last 5 years.1 years experience supervising and managing professional staff.OUTLINE OF ROLE

1. The Registered Manager oversees the day to day running of the home including; clear and effective procedures for monitoring and controlling the activities of the home, the financial viability of the home, any serious incident, allegations or complaintsabout the provision, and the quality of the provision.

1. The Registered Manager ensures young people take an active role in contributing to the running of the home and that their views and concerns are listened to and appropriately responded to.

1. The Registered Manager is responsible for ensuring staff engage and communicate effectively with young people, ensuring each young person’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural needs are met.

1. The Registered Manager should ensure that all staff working within the home provide a consistent service to the young people resident in the home. Staff working in the home should work consistently within the framework of relevant legislation and the homespolicies and procedures.

1. The Registered Manager is responsible for the ensuring all staff have appropriate and accurate job descriptions and as such are clear about their roles and responsibilities and lines of accountability.

1. The Registered Manager is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day line management and supervision of senior care staff (Deputy Homes Manager & Team Leaders) within the home and to oversee the management and supervision of all staff working withinthe home.

1. To have responsibility for the training and development of care staff and others as required.

1. To provide and oversee the required paperwork related to managing a children’s home.

The Registered Manager regularly monitor, in line with regulations, all records kept by the home to ensure compliance with the homes policies, to identify any concerns about specific incidents and to identify patterns and trends.This includes all relevant policies, the statement of purpose, children’s guide, individual young people’s case files, supervision and training records, health and safety information including fire safety, COSHH information, financial and budgetary information,complaints, incident reports and anything else stated as required in the appropriate legislation or requested for a specific young person, subject to agreement with the placing authority.

1. The Registered Manager will facilitate inspection visits from regulatory bodies and routine regulation 44 inspections ensuring all relevant information is accessible and easily available. The Registered Manager should act on and share all recommendationsfrom these visits with staff, young people, parents, local authorities and other interested parties.

1. The Registered Manager should ensure the home has a written procedure for considering complaints and responding to representations and complaints in accordance with legal requirement and relevant statutory guidance.

1. To support staff in their interactions with young people, attend and chair multi-disciplinary meetings, team meetings, house meetings, attend Looked After Child reviews, Personal Education Plan reviews and other meetings at the request of the local authority,conduct debriefs and reflective practice when necessary.

1. The Registered Manager should ensure all young people have an educational provision in place.

1. The Registered Manager should ensure they keep track of the Young Peoples progress within their care.

1. The Registered Manager should support and implement in; Personal Education Plans and weekly planners.

1. The Registered Manager should ensure the Young People are registered at a school provision and attend Parents evenings, as and when.
