Job Description

Job Title: Advanced Occupational TherapistGrade: Band 7Trust: Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS TrustLocation: Brooklands, B37 7HLWard/Dept: Forensic Assessment Consultation Training & Treatment (FACTT) ServicePay rate: £24.38Would you like to be part of a team whose core purpose is to make a positive difference to the health and wellbeing of people and communities who need our services. Are you highly motivated and committed with excellent attention to detail and strong communicationIf so, Coventry & Warwickshire are looking to recruit an innovative, enthusiastic, and experienced Occupational Therapist to join their Forensic Assessment Consultation, Training and Treatment team (FACTT).This is an exciting new post; offering the right candidate the opportunity to take a lead role in Occupational Therapy provision within the FACTT team. The successful applicant will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, which will include psychology,nursing, speech and language therapy, social work and psychiatry.FACTT is a community forensic support service which was originally designed for adults with a learning disability (LD) to support timely discharge from hospital and prevent unnecessary admission to hospital or prison. In an exciting development, the FACTTteam is currently being expanded to include autistic individuals who have forensic needs across. In accordance with the national specification for community forensic LD and autism services, the community forensic service provides:

  • Forensic in-reach support to inpatient services to support safe and timely discharges
  • Assessment and management of forensic risk in the community to ensure public safety and safety of the individual
  • Consultancy and support
  • Training and advice to other agencies
  • Treatment: Delivery of offence specific therapeutic interventions
Strong communication skills are an essential for this role, the post holder must be able to communicate highly complex and sensitive information to service users, families, carers and other to maximise the assessment and intervention process. This will includeuse of a range of communication skills including motivation, persuasion, tact and explanation and alternative systems including sign language, gestures, use of objects, picture and audio-visual aids to gain co-operation.The Postholder Will:
  • Deliver the agreed Occupational Therapist responsibilities of the community forensic (FACTT) service, following relevant protocols and procedures.
  • Offer highly-specialist OT support and interventions to families and carers, working across inpatient and community services
  • Manage their own caseload and work with other professionals/carers to help service users to reach recovery goals in the context of their LD and/or autism, risk and social circumstances
  • Lead on Occupational Therapy service developments in line with service priorities and timescales, as agreed
  • Supervise and manage clinical practice as required, including OT students and other staff working in their clinical area
Essential Requirements:
  • Relevant masters level degree (or equivalent KTE gained through experience)
  • HCPC registration
  • Post Graduate training related to the specialist clinical area
  • Ability to use specific Occupational Therapy standardised assessments, outcome measurements e.g., Assessment of Motor and Process Skills, sensory processing, Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool
  • Significant experience working with people with autism and/or learning disabilities at a senior level
  • Previous NHS experience
