Job Description

Assistant Legal CashierJob SummaryTo work within the Legal Cashiers team to assist experienced legal cashiers with all movement of monies coming in and going out of the business are dealt with accurately and efficiently in accordance with SRA regulations and deadlines. To be trained in allaspects of legal cashier duties and carry out tasks to assist the team to maintain client and office ledgers to a high standard and working to clients individual requirements to support the business.Duties & ResponsibilitiesTasks will be assigned by the Legal Cashier Team Manager and can include

  • Assisting payments team with high volumes of bacs and cheque requests out of client account, ensuring they are recorded accurately, appropriately authorised, bank details are validated and in line with client requirements.
  • Complete training with head cashier to be able to deal with costs allocation forms ensuring that apportionments are calculated correctly.
  • Process write off forms, WIP, dibs and time.
  • Ensure client banking for cheques received is done within SRA guidelines.
  • Ensure all BACS / cheques receipts to client are posted promptly and unallocated funds returned without delay. Correct use of suspense account.
  • Process and post accurately all types of bank payments/transfers between accounts and then ensure they are transferred on the banking software. These requests also need to be made within SRA guidelines and inputted onto the banking software. Client to officeand office to client.
  • To understand and clear office credit balances and balances on various suspense accounts.
  • To cover the role of finance assistant as and when required.
  • Point of contact to deal with any finance related queries from fee earners and other support staff. Assisting with queries in a shared mailbox from external and internal customers covering all types of cashier and finance queries.
  • Assist with office bank credit allocation, extremely high volume bacs remittances to be allocated to our bills in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Any other duties that may be required to assist Legal Cashier Team Manager.
Skills & experience required
  • Previous experience of working within a legal accounts finance team.
  • Basic understanding of Solicitors accounts rules
  • Ability to use Excel.
  • Good mathematical skills - GCSE Grade A-C
  • Time management skills and ability to prioritise.
  • To be able to maintain accuracy and attention to detail whilst dealing with high volumes.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic that is keen to learn and explore new ideas.
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to team members, colleagues and external customers.
