  • Providing geotechnical engineering subject matter expertise to support oil and gas projects development and operations to help bp achieve its resilient hydrocarbons ambition.
  • Provide understanding and advise on the following aspects of foundations:
    • Management of geotechnical site investigations.
    • Development of integrated ground models using geophysical and geotechnical site investigation data.
    • Identification of geohazard risks such as boulders, rocks, seismic considerations, liquefiable soils, slope stability, mud volcanoes, or other challenging ground conditions.
    • Design and analysis of offshore foundations including driven piles, jetted piles, suction anchors, shallow foundations, spudcans.
    • Soil-structure interaction for input into pipeline and riser design.
    • Compliance with bp and industry technical practices and standards.
  • Supporting conceptual development studies and site selection activities.
  • Provide input to technology development initiatives.
  • Adhering to bps code of conduct, ethics and compliance rules, and values & behaviors.
  • Ensuring safe and cost-efficient design and integrity management throughout asset life.
  • Quantifying and communicating risks to relevant stakeholders to ensure they are understood, controlled and continuously reduced across the business.
  • Maintaining relationships with third party suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Representation of bp in relevant industry working groups and committees.
  • Actively contributing to the geotechnical engineering community of practice to share knowledge and learnings.

  • Degree in civil/geotechnical engineering.
  • Appropriate professional accreditation (e.g. Chartered civil engineer, P.E. status, or chartered status in closely aligned discipline).
  • Significant, proven experience in the design, construction, and installation of foundations for offshore and/or onshore structures
  • Deep geotechnical engineering subject matter expertise, including:
    • Knowledge of soil sampling and in-situ testing tools for clays and sands.
    • Knowledge of laboratory tests and how they are used in design methods and constitutive models.
    • Experience in the integration of geophysical and geotechnical data to develop ground models.
    • Design, installation, testing and as-built assessment (e.g. driving analysis) of deep foundations (hammer or vibratory driven, drilled shafts and cast-in-place piles) for a wide range of limit states.
    • Experience with the design of mooring systems for floating structures such as suction anchors, driven piles, drag embedded anchors and other types of anchors.
    • Experience with the design of subsea foundations such as mudmats, jetted piles, hybrid foundations, and suction piles.
    • Experience with soils structure interaction for modeling steel catenary riser near the touch-down area and top-tensioned riser fatigue analyses.
    • Experience with soil-structure interaction for the design of pipelines and flowlines for on-bottom stability, walking, and buckling.
    • Experience with well drilling support activities: spudcan penetration analyses, design of jetted conductors.
    • Experience in use of numerical methods (finite element and finite difference) for engineering design applications including development of input parameters for constitutive modelling of geo-materials.
    • Experience in earthquake engineering (e.g. site response analysis, liquefaction)
    • Excellent knowledge of industry codes and standards.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing in a clear and succinct manner.
  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams with minimal technical supervision.
  • Ability to use strong technical skills to think strategically and provide powerful insights.
