Job Description

Deputy Nursery Manager - Long Ditton (Surrey)Salary: £12 per hour DOEThe CompanyOur established client Ofsted outstanding pre-school are looking for an experienced and qualified Deputy Manager who is passionate about children’s learning and development to help lead their team.The Role The deputy manager will assist in taking responsibility for the day-to-day running of the pre-school, including the management of staff and premises, the welfare, learning and development of children, and liaison with parents, in accordance with the statutory requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage Statutory Framework. Support the Manager to develop high quality practice and provision to support all children in reaching their full potential, within the prime areas of learning. This position also includes the role of SENCO and coordinating its SEND policy and provision.Hours: Term-Time only (38 weeks per year) from 25-30 hours per weekResponsibilities:

  • Take a shared responsibility for all aspects of the provision, including the management and deployment of staff, safety, security, premises, education and wellbeing of all children in line with the settings/schools written policies, Ofsted registration requirements and all statutory legislation, deputise as the manager when required.
  • Take a shared responsibility for ensuring policies and procedures are followed to meet the welfare requirements of the EYFS Statutory Frame work. To ensure these policies are maintained and reviewed.
  • Alongside the Manager, oversee the planning of appropriate experiences for all children in line with the settings policy on learning & development, in order to meet the learning and development requirements of the EYFS whilst supporting early identification and intervention strategies at all times.
  • This position includes the role of SENCO and coordinating its SEND policy and provision, therefore, experience working with children with Special Education needs is preferred.
  • Assist with the organisation and implementation of the key person system.
  • Maintain the values of and model good practice around inclusion and equal opportunities in all aspects of the role
  • Assist the manager with the implementation of the nursery procedure on planning, assessment, recording and reporting in line with the requirements of the EYFS Statutory Framework.
  • Adhere to the systems in place to develop and evaluate planning, observation and accurate assessment of individual children using the knowledge of key persons, parents, staff and other appropriate professionals.
  • Support the development of a nurturing environment to promote children’s emotional stability independence autonomy and creativity, through high quality child-centred play appropriate for children aged 2-5years
  • Manage the use of the space within the building and outdoors to ensure all children have access to an appropriate range of opportunities and experiences
  • Help manage communication with parents, addressing any concerns, informing them of their children’s progress, and encouraging them to become involved in their children’s learning.
  • Support the manager with the staff supervision process, acting as a role model and mentor of good practice at all times
  • Support the manager with the organisation of staff training to meet identified training needs and ensure all staff receive appropriate mentoring, coaching and training
  • Skills & Requirements:
  • Essentially, you will be NNEB or NVQ Level 3 qualified in childcare and Education and have a sound knowledge of the EYFS
  • You will need to be someone who is passionate about all aspects of childcare and education, and able to bring new ideas to the role.
  • You will need to be committed to continually improving the Pre-School, keeping up-to-date with legislation, local and national updates.
  • You will need to have a caring and dynamic approach, as well as, an ability to lead and motivate a range of staff.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a senior role
  • Knowledge and experience of planning for the needs of individual children, observing, assessing, recording and reporting to meet the EYFS statutory requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of child development
  • Ability to identify and deliver high quality childcare with a commitment to improving outcomes for children and childcare practice.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to meet the needs of children and their families with particular understanding of the importance of the child’s well-being, personal and social and emotional development
  • Ability to effectively observe, assess and track children’s progress with a thorough understanding of how this process is used to improve outcomes for children
  • Understanding the importance of effective information sharing and confidentiality
  • Experience of developing successfully working partnerships with external agencies and other professionals to support a multi-disciplinary approach around the child and family
  • Commitment to equality and inclusion with regards to parents and staff
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to Special Educational Needs Code of Practice, equal opportunities and disability discrimination
  • Previous experience of applying strategies and a commitment to safeguard and protect children
