Job Description

Job: Therapeutic PractitionerHours: 08.30-15.30 (hours may vary) Part time, term time onlySalary: £15.18/hourLocation: Merthyr (with commute to Brecon and Ebbw Vale)Reed recruitment have been approached by an award-winning provision, The Baxter project. The programme aims to develop positive relationships, assist young people in their recovery from childhood adversity and trauma and promote pro-social attitudes andbehaviours ultimately supporting positive change.As a Therapeutic Practitioner, you will engage with young people on a 1:1 basis (and a dog). Due to the various locations of the schools, you will need a full clean driving licence and your own transport. It is desirable (but not essential) you have accessto a dog for the need of the sessions, to build relationships with the students.Sessions are usually outdoors unless the weather necessitates indoor work. The primary aim is to have fun and build a relationship with a young person before addressing any underlying needs. It is important to act as a pro-socially appropriate role model.Full and ongoing training will be provided.Duties and responsibilities:

  • To provide a caring, supportive, and nurturing environment in which young people can feel secure and free from harm and in high regard.
  • Establish positive relationships and help young people gain self-control by challenging unacceptable behaviour and promoting acceptable, pro-social conduct.
  • Provide emotional support at times of difficulty or stress
  • Provide regular reports and feedback to the schools for monitoring purposes.
  • Empower and encourage young people to prosper in their educational career.
  • Facilitating a young persons active involvement in the decision making about their lives and future.
  • Encourage the young person to develop positive links with the community.
  • Work in partnership with the school community ensuring efficient and effective delivery of the programme.
  • Be a positive ambassador for the organisation.
General:
  • Comply with the safe working practise in accordance with the Health and Safety at Work Legislation and TAGCIC related policies.
  • Carry out all duties in line with Child Protection and safeguard practices
  • To be a positive role model, to be able to offer advice, guidance, and assistance where appropriate.
  • To have a commitment to self-development and undertake training and development opportunities aimed at improving the service to young people.
  • Attend and contribute to regular supervision sessions in line with the National Minimum Standards.
  • Any other duties as may be required and directed by the company or the registered manager.
  • To undertake other such duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the role.
What we are looking for:
  • It is desirable but not essential that you own or have regular access to a dog that is expected to pass a behaviour assessment to work with children and young people.
  • Previous experience of working or volunteering with young people desirable.
  • The ability to undertake several hours of physical activity be it prolonged walking, hill climbing or other physical activity.
  • The post is subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service checks.
  • Full and current driving licence.
  • Graduates in relevant fields encouraged to apply, including psychology
