We have more than 4,000 dedicated colleagues, at 14 locations across the country, all sharing the same obsession for our great food.Job description:R&D TechnicianBased in Lifton, Devon.Part-Time 15 hours per weekRole Purpose:We’re delighted to offer the opportunity for a Development Technician to join our site team at Lifton. You will be a central member of the team that supports the smooth running of the R&D function by means of sourcing and maintaining stock levels of raw materials and ingredients, courier bookings, sample & concept preparation, shelf life testing, compliance tasks, as well as other duties as identified by the Dessert R&D Manager.What you will be doing:

  • Source, co-ordinate and maintain adequate and timely supply of raw materials and ingredients as required, ensuring correct labelling/coding is always in place and audit ready.
  • Maintain raw material tracker up-to-date; allergen identification and segregation, communications of H&S requirements.
  • Book couriers as required and prepare parcels in the most efficient/cost effective way.
  • Prepare samples in the kitchen as required whilst following GMP and all necessary food product safety guidelines to ensure high quality trial samples for organoleptic assessment.
  • Carry out shelf life testing as required.
  • Conduct GMP checks and record daily actions in relevant forms.
  • Demonstrate the correct safety behaviours, ensuring safe operating practices are followed in all areas of activity.
  • Develop as part of a multi-disciplined team to optimise flexibility, performance and cover.
    • Identify own training needs and with manager agree a time plan to achieve.What we need from you:
  • Preferred - Previous experience working in NPD, or within a kitchen/ food manufacturing/catering environment. Experience/knowledge of Thermal Processing an advantage.
  • Good inter-personal skills and a proven ability to work effectively in a dynamic cross functional environment.
  • Confident Excel user.
  • Keen interest in the food industry, with an innovative & creative flair.
  • Problem solving, with a ‘can do attitude’.
  • Able to work individually, and as part of a team to strict deadlines.
  • Committed, challenging and determined.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills.
  • Great attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a fast-moving environment.
