Job Description

Role: Mortgage UnderwriterLocation: Head office based in Staffordshire, however mainly remote working with one day per week office based.Hours: 35 hours per week, worked flexibly between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday.Our client, a successful and well-respected financial services organisation, is currently recruiting for a Mortgage Underwriter to work as part of the Mortgage Underwriting Team with responsibility for making sound lending decisions, processing new mortgageand additional borrowing applications to offer stage in a compliant manner and in line with the companys policies/procedures and service level agreements.Responsibilities for Mortgage Underwriter:

  • Review and process the mortgage submission and application forms ensuring that all relevant paperwork is present and accurately completed and correctly input into the Activate system
  • Assess new mortgage applications/additional borrowing applications within required service standards to determine if the application meets with the criteria of the product conditions and Responsible Lending Policy and to provide a rationale for their decisionto lend/or to decline the application where necessary
  • Review the application to determine whether a referral is required either internally/ externally or to a higher mandate holder, as required
  • Fully complete all required Mortgage Applications Check Forms adding appropriate conditions, hold codes and collateral codes
  • To communicate effectively and in a timely manner with intermediaries/customers/colleagues to ensure that applications are processed efficiently, and information requests are complete and accurate (right first time)
  • Liaise with internal/external bodies to progress new mortgage business through to Offer within required timescales, monitoring and chasing any missing information
Experience/qualifications required for Mortgage Underwriter:
  • Previous experience and knowledge of mortgage processing is essential
  • Knowledge of Lending Policy is required although training will be provided
  • Computer literate with knowledge of Word and/or Excel
Flexibility around working hours and Saturday mornings are required on occasions as well as travel to other business locations when required.
