Job Description

Five Education are working with a mainstream primary school based in East Bristol. They are looking for a Teaching Assistant to work 1:1 with a child who has communication needs. The child currently has an EHCP plan in progress. The school use communication methods such as narrative and question dice, the ideal candidate will have experience using methods such as these.Responsibilities Include:

  • Supporting 1:1 in class
  • Using communication methods such as question dice
  • Ensuring that the child can access the curriculum - which may not be at the expected levels for their age
  • Working with the class teacher to maintain a constructive approach to benefit the child
  • Assist the child to engage fully into lessons
  • Help the child to develop socially, making friends etc
  • Helping to develop and utilise coping mechanisms
    • Essential Criteria:
  • At least 6 months of experience supporting children with SEN
  • A kind and open-minded approach
  • The ability to adapt and to motivate children
  • Knowledge of communication methods such as question dice
  • Knowledge of speech and language resources
  • Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30 5 days per week term time only

Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including a barred list check, reference checks and will need to have a DBS; there will also be a face to face interview.
