Job Description

Job Title: Stock AccountantLocation: LarbertPermanent - Full time - Agile working (3 days office, 2 days wfh)The Role Purpose

  • Ensure all Bulk Stock is accounted for correctly with particular focus on fuel card stock
  • Provide support and cover for other members of the stock accounting function including deputising for Head of Stock Accounting in the day to day operation of Stock Accounting function
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the correct stock data is captured and maintained on the system at all times
  • Each month end, prepare journals within prescribed deadlines and balance sheet reconciliations on a timely basis, challenging the validity of the closing balances
  • Analyse and report on all stock variances including stock gains and losses by location and grade (weekly), impact of price hedging, stock revaluations and invoice price variances
  • Identify potential risks (business and accounting) for Bulk stock and make sure that there are sufficient controls in place to mitigate these risks and that these controls are operating effectively
  • Take responsibility for investigating and resolving any issues identified engaging stakeholders involved in the process under investigation
  • Provide a constant challenge to existing processes, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the Stock Accounting function
  • Ensure all team processes are documented to facilitate cross training within the team and any internal or external audit recommendations are implemented on a timely
  • Building good relationships both internally and externally, working with stakeholders to resolve issues identified and to improve processes
  • Maintain open and honest communication, upholding the principle of no surprises
  • Support other members of the team: understand what, how and why they do it. Learn their tasks to provide cover for any absences.
  • Over time, take on the management and development of up to 4 direct reports
  • Share knowledge and any experience gained with other team members to enable them to learn and grow in their roles
Skills, Qualities & Experience
  • Either part-qual with relevant working experience or fully qualified/PQE preferably with experience within a commercial, high volume, multi-site environment
  • Strong accounting and analytical knowledge and understanding
  • A good level of commercial acumen, coupled with a hands-on, can-do attitude
  • Significant relevant experience in an accounting and/or business analyst role
  • Advanced system skills including Excel
  • Highly developed communication skills including the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of people as well as alone
  • Control and compliance minded
  • Excellent attention to detail
