Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine (plus partner specialty)Full Time (10 PA, including up to 2 SPA) / Part-time Salary Scale - £84,984 - £112,925 per annum (pro rata)Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge Then think about working in NHS Forth Valley in the heart of Scotland.NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint a Consultant Intensivist to support its current Intensive Care Team. Applications are welcome from doctors in partner specialties with appropriate training and qualifications in critical care medicine (anaesthetists, physicians, emergency medicine doctors). Regrettably, it is not possible to accommodate a sole ICM interest at this time. It is expected that applicants will have advanced training in critical care medicine as defined by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine or provide evidence of similar training and experience.The post holder will work within the existing team supporting delivery of Intensive Care,comprising 9 Consultant Intensivists, Anaesthesia, Medical and ICM trainees, Foundation doctors and trainee Advanced Critical Care Practitioners. Together we share responsibility for providing a comprehensive Intensive Care service for NHS Forth Valley. Our department is committed to deliver high quality evidence-based care to each of our patients. We are a close-knit team who appreciate enthusiasm and a drive to develop excellence in practice by creating a supportive environment and valuing shared experience.Acute medical services are centralised in the Forth Valley Royal Hospital in Larbert, with pain management clinics at Falkirk Community Hospital. The Emergency Department is active and there is a flourishing acute medical service. Respiratory and renal services are also on site. Good working relationships exist between the Intensive Care service and these departments. Sessions outwith your Intensive Care commitment will be delivered in your partner specialty by separate negotiation. Further information regarding these services can be obtained by facilitated contact with the relevant specialty leads.The Intensive Care component of the post will involve on-site daytime (including weekends) and evening sessions. Additional sessional commitments will depend on arrangements with partner specialties. Appointees must therefore have the capability to deliver and support trainees and other members of the Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Team who will be delivering obstetric, critical care and emergency anaesthetic services out of hours, supported by a non-resident general anaesthetist and intensive care consultant. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this aspect of the post with colleagues currently working in this way.The Anaesthesia team supports a wide range of surgical specialties. There are obstetric and paediatric services as well as acute and chronic pain services on site. The Anaesthesia department uses surgical models such as Day of Surgery Admission, Day Case Surgery, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), improving pre-operative preparation and developing the Anaesthesia Team (including initiatives such as Anaesthesia Associates).We value the skills and experience you bring and look forward to welcoming you into the team.
