Job Description

Clinical development fellow in TRAUMA & oRTHOPAEDIC sURGERYPost: Clinical development fellow DEPARTMENT: TRAUMA & oRTHOPAEDIC sURGERYBase: VICTORIA HOSPITAL, KIRKCALDY (NHS FIFE)TERM: 4th August 2021 – 2nd August 2022The department of Trauma and Orthopedic Services in NHS Fife wishes to appoint a clinical development fellow (ST1/CT1 level). This is a 1 year, fixed term post, designed to allow the opportunity to build skills in the generality of surgery and with specific experience in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery. This post is ideally suited to someone who is is preparing to make an application for either ST1 or ST3 level NTN in Trauma and Orthopaedics, which a previous post holder has successfully achieved. The department has a strong record in research as well as links with Edinburgh and St Andrews Universities. You would be expected to assist with the teaching of medical students from St Andrews, receiving as part of this the status of Honorary Teaching Fellow. They will be encouraged to undertake a research project and can apply to register for an MSc. There are ample opportunities to take part in either audit or quality improvement projects during the post. You will take part in the middle grade on-call rota which is a 1:12 partial shift.NHS Fife serves a catchment area with a population of 380,000 across Fife with the post being based at the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. On occasion you may be required to work at one of the other facilities used by NHS Fife at Queen Margaret Hospital Dunfermline and St Andrews Memorial Hospital.The Directorate provides out-patient clinics, Trauma and Elective surgery for adult and paediatric patients’ throughout the Fife area. There are currently 6 teams with Consultants providing general Orthopaedic services plus specialist care in Major Joint replacement and reconstruction, Arthroscopy, Upper and Lower Limb surgery.Interested applicants may obtain further information and/or arrange a visit by contacting Mr Robert Cook, Training Lead (T&O) on ext 28928CLOSING DATE: 19th March 2021INTERVIEWS: 26th March 2021
