Job Description

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs & the development of programmes of care &/or the implementation & evaluation of these programmes ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients. The post holder will have continual 24 hour responsibility for the management of the ward /department and will undertake regular rotational cover of the Hospital/Site to provide leadership, deal with clinical issues, immediate management issues & deploy staff as appropriate. The successful candidate will direct, coordinate & supervise where appropriate the work of other staff within the ward or department to promote & implement evidence based practice in relation to patient care and will also will assume responsibility for implementing clinical standards & give advice, support & education to staff as appropriate within the ward/department. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and will be required to demonstrate procedures to & supervise registered &/or unregistered staff as well as student nurses.Duties may vary with the type of ward/department & the degree of patient dependency.Applying candidates should be a registered Nurse with valid NMC Registration, be educated to/working towards/operating at Degree Level and have a post graduate expertise within speciality / area of practice that demonstrates the required breadth of knowledge required to lead safety, effectively and efficiently. In addition, applying candidates should have a comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the speciality / area of practice as well as a specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies and procedures associated with the speciality/area of practice ensuring that the level of expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership within speciality / area of practice.Candidate should also hold a management qualification or equivalent gained through experience and continuous professional development and be able to provide evidence of further education/evidence of Continuous Professional Development in area of speciality including study days/courses/post graduate qualification.
