Job Description

We are now looking for a Head of Teaching and Learning to join their busy team in Keele!The Head of Teaching and Learning will provide the leadership and vision to deliver excellent student outcomes, quality assurance and enhancement, and curriculum innovation that embeds outstanding collaborative working with both the University and the network.Reporting to the College Director/Principal, you will work closely with senior colleagues within and outside the College and be accountable for teaching and learning, retention and progression rates to the University. Critically the successful candidatewill need to carefully balance the requirements of the College alongside the need for compliance, consistency and collaboration with the University and Navitas as a whole.You will take leadership of, accountability for and direct line management responsibility for a team of sessional staff. Consequently the successful candidate will demonstrate successful line management experience in an academic/educational context in arelevant subject discipline and have a proven ability to engage with an HEI in collaborative developments.Salary: £40,000-£45,000 Per annumHead of Teaching and Learning Duties:

  • Articulate and implement a clear vision to drive forward continuous improvement and enable the college to achieve aspirational targets for student outcomes.
  • Communicate and implement a clear vision for the development of the academic partnership with the host university, including appropriate articulation routes that maximise opportunities for recruitment to the college.
  • Articulate and implement a clear vision for the development of programme pathways to meet the overall strategic aims of the college.
  • Provide effective and efficient academic management and co-ordination of staff resources across all-relevant teams in the college.
  • Taking overall responsibility for academic standards, the quality of learning opportunities, and the accuracy of published information and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the college.
  • Deliver the curriculum effectively and efficiently
  • Responsible for development, approval, delivery and quality assurance of all programmes at the college
  • Under the direction of the CPD, to coordinate the work of new programme development across the College leading on validation, liaison with internal and external stakeholders, and preparing for roll-out following Navitas and the Universitys QA processes
  • Implement the Colleges strategic growth plan for new products, in their plans to diversify offerings
  • To prepare validation events and ensure successful outcomes from validation events to meet the Colleges strategic objectives.
  • Lead the mapping of learning and responsible for achieving key performance indicators for student outcomes
  • To develop documents for programme and assessment design, module study guides and learning resources.
  • Manage the collection , analysis and presentation of data for College Academic Boards and Panels, governance reports, Navitas UK and NVT Global Monthly and Annual Reports
  • Manage the Annual Monitoring Review process for the College
  • Develop and maintain academic relationships with the Partner University through Link Tutors and other Academic University leads as appropriate
  • Manage the academic quality assurance processes for the College: QAA, CLA, CMA, Regulatory audits
  • Manage academic sessional staff, the Peer Review and Management Observation process for the College
  • To work with the Head of College Services and student representatives to develop student engagement within programme and assessment design.
Head of Teaching and Learning Requirements:
  • Educated to postgraduate degree level (Masters/MBA)
  • HE or FE experience developing new programmes, knowing the standards and quality expected for academic programme development.
  • Good working knowledge of curriculum development in HE
  • Good IT skills
  • Experience of making commercial decisions in an academic environment
  • Experience of planning and managing a project to completion
  • Experience of academic curriculum development [e.g. module design, assessment design, learning and teaching theories]
  • Experience of online delivery of curriculum
  • Experience of academic staff recruitment
  • Experience of leading other academics
  • Experience of quality assurance of academic provision
  • Well-developed interpersonal, presentation and negotiation skills and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Experience in a multicultural learning environment
  • Strong understanding of academic administration in higher education, and be able to lead and implement change in a busy and engaging environment.
  • Customer service and communication skills must be first rate and the candidate must be able to work with academics and decision makers at all levels.
  • Excellent organisation skills, as well as being effective and supportive in coordinating key stakeholders across departments and functions.
  • Experience of working in the university pathway/foundation preparatory courses
  • Experience of external audit by QAA or similar
  • Knowledge of the quality assurance within UK Higher Education
  • Experience of working with academics across different disciplines
  • Experience of Committee work
