You will need a broad mechatronics understanding, a flare forinnovation, and you’ll want to remain hands on as an engineer and a problem solver. Your team will rely on you to problem solve complex engineering issues and develop solutions for them.You will be running 1-2 projects at any one time with an expectation for you to deliver those projects within 3-10 months.R&D and design engineering, your team of engineers will cover final machine test, and FAT on customer sites, compile all BOM’s, associated design documentation and adhere to CE/UKCA compliance. Which you will drive.Depending on the complexity of the project, once you have handed over to production after design freeze, a machine build can take us up to 8 weeks. All our components and parts are bought in and manufactured to our specification, but we do all the fitting,build and assembly on our site in Bedford.Our machines value from £10,000 to £500,000; and we sell on average 10-20 machines a year.YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES: Engineering Manager - Special Purpose Machinery, R&D, Design Engineer, Mechanical, MechatronicsAs our Engineering Manager, you will :· Lead a team of eight permanent engineers covering mechanical design / electrical design / controls engineering & machinery test· Project manage the innovation of new special purpose machinery (mains electric)· Problem-solve complex technical / engineering challenges for your team· Have a solid engineering / technical background · Be able to understand the roles of your various team membersYOUR BACKGROUND: Engineering Manager - Special Purpose Machinery, R&D, Design Engineering, Mechanical, Mechatronics· You will have previously led the design and development of industrial / special purpose machinery - managing a team of multi-skilled design engineers· You’ll have experience with machine innovation and developing new special purpose machinery from concept to completion (i.e., the full project life-cycle)· Your background should also cover the redesign and redevelopment of special purpose machinery· Any exposure you have to converting / rewinding machinery would be advantageous – but we don’t expect you to have it – just a solid design background in special purpose machineryWe’re not hung up on your engineering qualifications – but you’ll probably be degree educated with considerable experience in a similar role. A purely mechanical background probably won’t be strong enough for you to lead and develop electrical and softwareengineers.
