England’s first Integrated Covid Hub is launching in the North East.Newcastle Hospitals will manage the Hub, working closely with Newcastle City Council together with colleagues from, Public Health England, local universities and industry.The Hub includes a new Lighthouse Laboratory at Baltic Park in Gateshead which opened in December 2020 and will significantly increase testing capacity. Results reporting will be integrated into NHS Test and Trace, so they are quickly available to those who have been tested. The lab will supplement and work closely with existing NHS labs in the region.Newcastle Hospitals manage the Lighthouse laboratory and are looking to appoint a Deputy Quality Manager who will be responsible for implementing a Quality Management System (QMS) for the whole Laboratory, and ensuring the Laboratory meets both regulatory and accreditation requirements.Accountable to the Quality Manager, the post holder will be a key member of the Quality Team charged with the development and implementation of the Laboratorys Quality Systems, assisting in the coordination of quality related activities, as well as deputising for the Quality Manager in these areas as required. The postholder will also assist in ensuring that the Laboratory develops and maintains a robust organisational infrastructure to become progressively more effective in development of a strong quality culture and ensure that quality aims and objectives meet both regulatory and accreditation requirements.Other duties will include providing help and guidance to staff and users in the interpretation of quality performance requirements and indices, performing statistical analysis to monitor the performance of each assay against time and monitoring the document control system to ensure that any changes to methods are reflected in the appropriate SOP.With a BSc in Biomedical Science or an equivalent qualification and a MSc, FIBMS or equivalent level of qualification and/or knowledge, be able to demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge of and experience in a laboratory.
