Freightserve recruitment are looking for a Lead Developer for a well-established niche sector Freight Forwarder based in the Heathrow area.You will have the opportunity to grow your career supported by an award-winning team and industry-leading systems and processes. We are fully committed to rewarding dedication and success and supporting staff to achieve their full potential. The lead developersrole is to design, code, test, and implement software programs. This includes researching, designing, documenting, and modifying software throughout the development lifecycle. The lead developer will also provide level 2 support for our in-house applications.They will analyse and amend software errors in a timely and accurate fashion and provide status reports where required. The lead developer will provide guidance and support to other developers.Main Role AccountabilitiesDevelopment Activities:

• Execute development projects in accordance with agreed requirements specifications within the agreed timeframe. Specifications may be in either written or verbal form depending on the project.
• Supervise allocation of work units from a project to other developers and monitor performance.
• Ensure all code is written using current industry best practices, particularly regarding security.
• Recommend, schedule, and perform software bug fixes, improvements, and upgrades
• Able to assist other team members in conceptualising and developing new software programs and applications.

Performance Measures:

• Advise in the feasibility and scoping of development requests to allow requests to be suitably approved, rejected, or modified.
• Provide feedback to the Head of IT and/or the project sponsor on the progress of the project including ongoing viability and whether the agreed delivery date will be met.
• Provide support to end-users for in-house products.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of development technologies and methodologies.
• Ensure code is commented and documented to allow other team members to understand its functionality.
• Run and monitor software performance tests on new and existing programs for the purposes of correcting errors, isolating areas for improvement, and general debugging.
• Administer critical analysis of test results and deliver solutions to problem areas.
• Work collaboratively with other team members to deliver projects and share knowledge
• Plan phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety of projects.
• Ensure all release management activities are followed and documented.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of the business

Documentation and Data Protection:

• Production and maintenance of end-user instructions & user guides.
• Adding scoping and development notes to development requests.
• Preparation and documentation of software requirements and specifications.
• Documenting development projects in Jira project management tool.
• Ensure all project code is contained within the source control system.

• Ensure compliance with any Health & Safety initiatives to provide a safe work environment in line with all local regulations and company policies.

Key Skills and Attributes

• Working technical knowledge of programming languages, including .NET framework particularly VB.NET, ASP.NET, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Angular.JS.
• Experience with Microsoft SQL Server database and SQL admin tasks.
• Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010-2013, Team Foundation Server and general knowledge of Microsoft Office products

Qualifications and Experience

• Proven experience in a senior or lead developer role with the above key skills and attributes.
• Experience in supervising a development team.
• Experience in the freight industry and CargoWise tools would be beneficial but not essential.
