Job Description

Senior Mechanical Design EngineerHeanor & Some Hybrid Working£48k to £52 + Great benefits packageThe CompanyAs a world leading engineering company with a proven track record in providing advanced engineered solutions to the Aerospace, Energy, Marine and Nuclear Sectors, my client has a history and pedigree that spans more than a century.Due to a period of significant growth, they are now looking to build their already impressive design team with the addition of a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to be involved in GA drawings, manufacturing drawings, creating models, and providing technicalsupport to others in the design team (not managing).The RoleBased at their impressive Heanor facility you’ll be designing a range of bespoke products based on project needs and solving client’s technical requirements for each project. This includes:

  • Creating detail and arrangement drawings and checking others’ GA and detail drawings
  • Checking that all design has been carried out to British and Company standards
  • Design overall architecture, subassemblies and/or components to meet specification and cost targets. Also, analyse, document and verify designs
  • Provide checking (as a technical signatory delegate) for engineering deliverables
  • Issuing drawings in line with the company’s standards (including British Standard)
  • Suggesting best practice for GD&T and introducing any changes
  • Ensuring there is sufficient stack up analysis performed to ensure the designs meet fit, form and function needs
  • Working with the project team and feeding this through the design function of the business, as well as carrying out site and customer visits
  • Utilising a range of design and IT software (Ideally SolidWorks for CAD and the usual Microsoft suite of programs)
This is only part of a larger job specification, so if you meet the above and below criteria, apply and I’ll be in touch with those that most suit the needs of the roleThe PersonYou’ll obviously need certain things in your locker to be considered, which includes:
  • Relevant qualifications linked to your Craft. Preferably a degree, but an HNC + relevant experience is also acceptable
  • Relevant mechanical design and checking experience with supervisory exposure
  • Real-world experience within design of structural steelwork/ sheet metal / large enclosures / welded fabrications etc. This is not an FMCG or small ‘product’ manufacturer.
  • Advanced abilities within a recognised 3D CAD package - ideally SolidWorks but other packages may be considered.
  • Proven ability to convey technical information to a wide audience
  • Experience of Design for Manufacture and methods of manufacture
  • Good time management and ability to achieve project milestones
  • A full UK driving licence
As this is a permanent, full-time role, we require candidates to be within a reasonable commute of Heanor and who won’t have to relocate. You will also require full eligibility to work in the UK without sponsorship. This is a senior position, sowould not suit a recent graduate.The RewardsIn addition to working with an established and respected company, with an impressive heritage and customer base, you’ll be rewarded with:
