Job Description

Are you a flexible and reliable worker, that doesnt mind being outside for 4 hours a dayThis is a project that needs temporary workers to support the local schools project.The project will be for 8 weeks and starts on Monday 15th March You must be able to do 2 hours of on-line training on Tuesday 9th March and 1-hour face to face training on Wednesday 10th March.Hours:3 hours per day between 08:30-10:00 and 14:00-16:00 Times vary on per site and will be confirmed with each stewardWe require people who can work the whole project, Mon-Fri both shifts. This role is a senior role, managing more of the coordination of the day.The Lead Steward will be the main point of contact for the school and the Education Active Travel Officer. They will ensure correct placement of the bollards and cones and that the other Stewards have the required equipment e.g. whistle and hi-viz. You will also liaise with the Education Active Travel Officer, checking in on any briefings which may impact on the closure on any day and reporting any complaints or issues.Main duties includeClose the road safely - by positioning signs and bollards according to official council guidelines, whilst not exposing yourself or others to danger from oncoming traffic.1. Stay visible, alert and safe - by positioning yourself for maximum visibility to oncoming traffic and awareness of the activities inside and outside of the closure area.2. Divert through traffic - by adopting a calm, assertive and friendly manner. The postholder with be expected to explain briefly what is happening and how long the closure will last, suggest alternative routes and, if needed, be clear that this is a legal road closure and residents and school staff have been consulted.3. Guide drivers needing access (e.g. residents, blue badge holders, special circumstances only) - by ensuring agreement from the driver to be walked through the closure and that the road is clear of children and parents before moving the barriers.4. Encourage feedback - by directing parents, residents and other road users to complete the provided surveys.5. You will liaise with the Lead Steward checking in on any briefings which may impact on the closure on any day and reporting any complaints or issues.6. Conduct all contact and conversations in a professional manner in accordance with project requirements.7. To support and comply with the charitys guidance on branding, tone of voice and key messages, positively contributing towards raising the charitys profile and the programme implemented by East Sussex County Council.You will be expected to have a positive attitude towards walking and cycling and be supportive of the reasons for the Programme.
