Job Description

Are you a qualified SENCo with a minimum of 3 years experience in the roleGateways School is currently recruiting a temporary (sickness cover) SENCo to work across our Prep and High School. We are looking for someone with great experience who can hit the ground running.We are open to anyone from a Primary or Secondary background. We are also open to candidates who can take on this role on a full-time or part-time basis either flexibly or to fit in with an existing schedule.Key Duties and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that school policies and procedures are in line with the latest governmental SEN policies and regulations;
  • Deploying a team of Learning Assistants appropriately across both schools;
  • Ensuring that teachers have the knowledge and skills to carry out SEN policies and to teach children with special learning requirements to a high standard;
  • Preparing and leading SEN training for Teachers and Learning Assistants when necessary;
  • Assessing and screening to ascertain specific educational needs of children who may have learning disabilities and providing subsequent recommendations for their support;
  • Providing feedback and updates on the educational progress of children to their parents;
  • Providing support to children with learning difficulties within the classroom and within the specialist departmental area;
  • Providing referrals for children to receive support outside of school hours, from Therapists, Medical Specialists or Tutors.
Skills and requirements:
  • Knowledge of local and national SEN policies, including expert knowledge of the UKs Equality Act;
  • Ability to develop new lesson plans and support procedures for teaching children with special education needs;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check to legally be allowed to work with children;
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS);
  • National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCo) qualification.
