Job Description

The Business & Opportunity:This is a newly created opportunity to lead the finance function of a group consisting of an interesting and diverse range of businesses. As a reputable, award winning well-known brand, they operate across the property, leisure, farming, renewable energy, hospitality, food production and lifestyle sectors. Based from their prestigious offices in Harewood, North Leeds, you will be a key member of the Senior Management team, working closely with the Managing Director in a commercial and strategic capacity, exploring opportunities to create further growth and offerings.As Head of Finance, you will manage a small accounts team, taking responsibility for overseeing end-to-end finance operations, financial planning and analysis, improvements to procedures and controls, and provide valuable input into capital projects across all businesses.Specific Requirement:You will be the most senior point of contact for all finance related activity, both from a commercial and strategic perspective, and ensuring your finance team smoothly carry out all number crunching and hand-on activities. This will include:

  • Provide a strategic oversight of budgets for all businesses;
  • Analyse financial data and undertake strategic planning to identify alternate scenarios in order to minimise financial risk;
  • Develop and monitor annual budgets and forecasts;
  • Oversee the production of accurate financial information for all entities using Xero software;
  • Monthly reporting of all income, expenditure and cash flow, including the production of monthly and quarterly management accounts;
  • Liaise closely with other departmental heads in order to accurately set their budgets;
  • Project appraisal of capital projects, ensuring thorough challenge and assessment of viability with the Senior Management Team;
  • Be the point of contact with all external relationships (e.g. Auditors, Banks, Tax advisors, Payroll provider etc);
  • Devise, implement and manage new procedures, controls, processes and systems - e.g. a new purchase order system;
  • Review and regularly update the asset registers of all the different businesses;
  • Work closely with the external advisors to carry out tax planning and preparation of statutory accounts;
  • Manage the in-house accounts team to ensure the smooth running of daily and monthly tasks. These include…Accruals and prepayments / BACS payment runs / Raise and post sales invoices / Bank Reconciliations / Monthly intercompany and tenant recharges / Payroll information / Quarterly VAT returns etc.
  • Skills & Experience required:
  • Either Qualified (ACA, CIMA, ACCA, ACMA), or Qualified By Experience;
  • Experience across multiple businesses and sectors, ideally to include SME;
  • A broad accounting background, including a wealth of experience in managing budgets and management accounts;
  • Good Staff management skills to ensure you get the best from a small accounts team;
  • Experience of implementing new processes and procedures;
  • A working knowledge of Xero will prove advantageous, but not a pre-requisite
  • A tactful, innovative, strategic, forward thinking team player, with the ability to think outside the box.
  • Confident personality in order to liaise well with the Senior Management team and gain respect from the finance team and external parties;
  • Ideally possess your own transport.
  • What’s on Offer:
