Job Description

Job IntroductionResponsible for the day to running of a small Utility Mapping Surveying team (usually two person) providing high quality Utility Mapping Surveying related data and QA assurance to the wider delivery team including third party and design teams. To managethe production of survey mapping information and ensure that all available utility information is made available to site teams and recorded on the permit to break ground procedure. This will require close working relationships with a variety of CSjv, supplychain and third-party stakeholders where personal rapport will be critical to ensuring that the works are progressed in a timely and accurate fashion.Flexible working: We welcome you to ask about the flexibility you need.   • Assist/advise excavation teams in location of utilities across the project and advise any safe system of work requirements
  • Carry out utility & GPR site mark-up/survey and feedback changes to the utilities model
  • Undertake topographical survey and photogrammetry surveys
  • Mentor engineers/assist with further training for utility tracing
  • Carry out site permit to dig compliance inspections as and when required
  • Assisting permit to dig process and supporting the Permit Coordinator/Authorising Person
  • Assisting with the production of CAD models and processing of data
  • Recording, Collation and storing of information for updating the utilities model
  • Good work ethic, time keeping and collaborative attitude with colleagues.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders
  • Positive attitude to building a safe culture and holder of a CSCS card.
  • Experienced user of surveying software including Micro Station, LSS, CAD, Starnet and Context capture.
  • Ability to integrate effectively with the BIM team. A collaborative approach to this with the end goal that all aspects of the I&M and survey processes and deliverables are included in to the BIM process.
  • Keen to develop his/her skills as a civil engineering surveyor.
  • Have a good understanding of surveying, methods and software applicable for utility works; previous experience in these fields is desirable.
  • Document writing is a part of the role. This includes safety documentation, permits to break ground, construction logistics plans, QA plans etc. These will need to be reviewed and approved by HS2 and will require a good competency level in the use of Word
The Ideal CandidateIt is expected that the role-holder has competence in the following skills in order to support the role but this is not the core element of the role:
  • Able to carry out instrument calibrations and produce QA records.
  • Competent in utility surveying techniques and able to carry out unsupervised field work.
  • Aware of the latest setting out techniques and have an understanding of the latest utility mapping equipment.
  • Able to produce good quality QA records for all utility surveying work.
  • Able to display good communications with other site disciplines.
  • Able be able to carry out recorded the position of services with GPS equipment.
  • Able to process and present topographical surveys.
  • Able to carry out and present as-built utility surveys.
  • Able to communicate the setting out of utilities to other on-site disciplines.
  • Fully able understand drawings and other electronic design information.
  • Be able to interrogate and QA design information as a last line of defence and be able to work directly with the design teams to resolve issues.
  • Able to establish and maintain horizontal and vertical survey control networks.
  • Have an awareness of the latest advancements in surveying technology including GPS laser scanners and photogrammetry and associated software.
  • Display good understanding with regard to surveying equipment and its cost.
  • Preferably qualified to QCF level 5 in Utility mapping and a member of a construction related professional body.
