Job Description

Job IntroductionSub-Agent for Cross-Passage construction for SCS Area Central.Responsible for the Cross Passage excavation, lining, waterproofing and secondary lining, taking a significant role in the delivery and managing aspects of time, cost and quality. Will require technical (engineering / tunnelling), leadership and projectmanagement skill and experience.As the most senior engineer responsible solely on cross-passages, the role is expected to include management of shift engineers during the shift in all technical aspects and liaison with the Pit Boss, Inspectors and Client in managing the quality, healthand safety aspects of the shift.Role ResponsibilityKey Responsibilities Provide strategic guidance based on personal knowledge and experience of similar projects to inform and direct project and programme. Be conversant with all drawings,specificationsand related information for the works under their control and ensure a similar understanding within the team. Reporting progress against sectional programme and providing narrative on delays / problems / innovation. Work in conjunction with TBM teams for the successful installation of Cross Passage related structures and coordinate logistics as such to not negatively impact TBM operations. Assist in optimisation of drive site layout / setup to maximize TBM and Cross Passage efficiency of operation. Undertake and work withtheShiftEngineers to ensure all setting-out and quality control procedures are performed in a timely and efficient manner, so as not to impede the construction programme. Also, provide support as Shift Engineer stand in for sickness/ holiday cover if / as required. Developa28-dayprogrammetobenchmark productivity measures for the workforce. Assess actual programme and productivity achieved for review at weekly progress meetings. This shouldinclude resource requirements. Communicate with works managers, foremen, gangers,operatives,and sub-contractors to ensure full understanding of information provided. This includes attending and/or carrying out of RAMS and Start of Shift briefings to ensure the information is conveyedaccurately and appropriately. Prepare and periodically review theRisk Assessments andMethodStatements(RAMS), Plans and Proceduresfor the construction works and ensure that the work is being carried out as specified. Work with the construction and quality teams to completeInspection andTestPlans(ITPs)for the control of the works ensuring that all necessary documentationandcheck sheetsareproduced in a timely manner. Communicate to the QA and QSteamsnon-conformances, and any instructions received from the client / designer staff. Ensure that comprehensive records of resources employed on additional works are maintained. Management of sub-contractors involved in the works including their attendance and understanding of briefings. That the level of quality and safety is in line with SCSs standard, and management of progress and additional works are maintained with detailedrecords. Procurement of Plant, Materials and Equipmentrequired for each sitethrough Requisitionsreviewed by the Agent(s). Keep a full and accurate daily site diary, including any changes / variations, subcontractors attendance, and records ofwork-relateddiscussions with client / designer / project team. Develop and maintain a good working relationship with the Client and within the team promote an aim to exceed Client expectations. Ensure safety, environmental and quality non-conformances are reported to the Agent in a timely manner. Reporting on ground condition monitoring and any changes, significant or otherwise. Compilation of Temporary Works design briefs/temporary works co-ordination Understand the Client and Joint Venture Partners Environment and Sustainability Policies, Processes and statutory requirements as they affect the companys operations and ensure that the requirements, as applicable within their discipline, are implementedon the project.Other Responsibilities Understands the scope of the works and can identify change. Promoting the pursuit of excellence and continuous improvement, driving innovation, adopting best practice, standardising processes and procedures. Ad hoc duties as required by the job.The Ideal CandidateRequired Qualifications and Skills

  • Engineering Degree / HNC or similar in a construction discipline.
  • IOSH or SMSTS.
  • Several years experience as Shift / Section Engineer working in mined tunnelling.
  • Application of survey control and guidance techniques/systems.
  • Short term planning and programming works.
  • Temporary works appreciation.
  • Material and plant procurement.
  • Proficient in written presentation of records.
  • Thorough grounding in quality, safety and environmental methodologies.
Desirable Qualifications & Skills
  • Engineering Degree/HNC or similar in Tunnelling/Mining
  • Appointed Person (Cranes)
  • Temporary Works Co-ordinator
  • Member of ICE/IMMM
  • 5+ years experience as Senior Engineer working in SCL / TBM / mined construction including Cross Passage construction.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of Survey Control and Guidance techniques/systems
  • Experience in planning and programming multi discipline works, particularly within the tunnelling industry
  • Temporary works innovation and design
  • Good track record in cost control and opportunity identification
