Company description:Principal Engimeer - Murphy Applied Engineering - Golborne Murphy Group has a new opening for a driven and ambitious Principal Engineer, this position falls in our Applied Engineering division which is a group function however this position will focus on the Amp 7 framework contract with United Utilities. You will manage the performance of your own work and others, to achieve goals and objectives, by leading the delivery of a broad range of complex engineering design and related services for the framework.Job description:The Role•Establish and promote best practice in health, safety and environmental matters in conjunction with the SHES department.•Represent MAE when necessary at internal and external meetings.•Agree technical requirements with client, ensuring it is fully understood, questioning and challenging where necessary.•Undertake site visits and inspections when appropriate.•Organise and lead the day-to-day workload of engineers and technical staff within the design team.•Undertake the responsibilities of Project Design Engineer:•Develop and agree fee proposals with Engineering Manager.•Oversee the project and contribute to the production of design deliverables.•Identify and assess the technical opportunities for value engineering.•Develop and build a positive relationship with clients.•Provide project reports to Engineering Manager as required, including financial and programme progress and forecasts and early warnings on issues.•Ensure that design work undertaken is carried out in accordance with applicable legal requirements and company procedures and that a high level of professionalism is maintained.•Prepare conceptual designs with a view to the preparation of safe, practical and economic designs in accordance with current legislation.•Prepare detailed designs in accordance with current standards and codes including calculations, design risk assessments and sufficiently detailed sketches for the preparation of working drawings.•Provide a technical assessment and review of 3rd Party designs, ensuring compliance with the brief to meet client and Murphy requirements.•Check the design work of other staff members and external designers.•Coach individual staff members.•Provide advice and guidance on design issues.•Resolution of technical project design issues, incidents, defects and failures, incident investigation, examining causes of failure, rectification analysis, review, advice and redesign.•Maintain responsibility for the storage, filing and archiving of documents relevant to design tasks.•Manage the financial and commercial aspects of the project with the support of Engineering Manager, monitoring progress against, and ensuring the project is delivered to, agreed programme and budget.•Administration and monitoring of design change.•Seek regular formal and informal feedback from clients on design work and that it is collated and saved in accordance with procedure, noting lessons learned and ensuring continuous improvement.•Periodically working as an embedded part of tender teams.Your Profile•Chartered Engineer (ICE / IstructE or equivalent alternative)•Significant and broad temporary works design experience.•Permanent works design experience.•Able to demonstrate experience and a strong competence in the optioneering of Civil Engineering works.•Able to demonstrate strong communication skills particularly with regards to collaborating with project delivery teams and presenting to Clients.
