Job Description

Summary We’re looking for a Retail Manager to join our team at Winkworth Arboretum. You’ll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day and you’ll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. You’ll be working 37.5 hours per week, with a usual working pattern of 9am - 5pm which includes weekends. Interview: Week commencing 22nd April 2024 with an anticipated starting date on 27th May 2024 What its like to work here Its an exciting time to be joining us at Winkworth. Work is well underway to build our brand-new visitor centre, which is due to be completed in late June 2024. The building will be home to a new shop, café, toilets, and visitor reception.Youll help source local products that reflect the spirit of Winkworth Arboretum. Through carefully curated ranges and visual merchandising youll bring this to life, making our visitors experience unique & special.Reporting to the Area Manager, youll be leading a new team of up to 8 retail assistants and a small team of retail volunteers. As this is a new shop, so you’ll be involved in recruiting and building the team in readiness for our opening.Youll also be part of the leadership team at Winkworth Arboretum and will work closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the Winkworth.To find out more about what it’s like to work within “Retail” at the National Trust, click here to watch our video. What youll be doing Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they’re having their best possible day. Youll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to speak to people and answer their questions, also to inspiring them, so thateveryone who buys something knows just what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the work of the Trust in protecting nature, beauty and history.Youll set stretching targets for the team, and work together to achieve these through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.Please also read the full role profile, attached to the end of this advert. Who were looking for Wed love to hear from you, if you’re:

  • an experienced retail manager, familiar with standard processes (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk)
  • skilled in coaching, developing and leading teams
  • experienced in managing rotas and recruiting staff
  • adept at getting maximum sales out of a retail outlet
