Job Description

London Film Academy is seeking an experienced Head of Courses to join our Senior Management team and lead the Courses team at our busy Higher Education Institution based in Fulham, London. This is a four-day per week role.London Film Academy (LFA) has a global reputation for excellence in film education. We are proud to see our graduates go on to build notable careers in both TV and film all over the world. LFA is now undergoing a huge period of growth and we are looking for an exceptional individual, with experience in both leading academic courses and film practice, to lead and inspire our course teams and strategically support our planned expansion.This is a senior role within the organisation and requires knowledge and understanding of course delivery at HE level. With popular BA and MA courses the post-holder will have oversight over all areas of academic quality, student experience and obligations to necessary stakeholders, including our validating university partner(s) and Office for Students. They will formally take a leading role in academic governance processes and have overall accountability for reporting, budgeting and compliance in all areas of course delivery.LFA prides itself on its close association with the UK film industry and strives to deliver practical relevant training that mirrors the realities of the industry. We expect the post-holder to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of film practice and work with us to ensure that our course delivery is pertinent to the needs and expectations of the industry at large. The role will also have oversight of all short courses, including specialised technical training and courses aimed at younger and under-represented demographics.To support our anticipated growth, we also expect the post-holder to identify and support opportunities for new or revised course provision. This strategic input will require innovation, awareness of the market and be in line with stated LFA Values.   • BA Courses; line manage course leader and lead all staff in oversight of all areas of delivery including involvement in recruitment of students and tutors; induction; course scheduling & budgeting; engagement with tutors; detailed analysis and regular review of course curriculum; monitoring teaching standards and course materials; leading on CPD initiatives with staff and tutors; ensuring academic rigour; monitor balance of practice based training with theory; continually consider student experience including monitoring of pastoral and counselling support; oversight of course film productions; ensure delivery of all assessments and associated requirements of validating partner are met; coordinate delivery of all necessary evaluation including module reports and course review as well as student, staff & tutor feedback; interpret reviews and feedback to consider changes to course delivery on regular basis.
  • MA & Diploma Courses: As above
  • Short Courses: line manage course leader and work with course coordinator to oversee effective delivery of all short courses. This includes, but is not limited to: scheduling and budgeting of each individual course; engagement with tutors; detailed analysis and regular review of course curriculum or each course; monitoring teaching standards and course materials; regular review of course feedback; implementing measures that improve opportunities to upsell and confirm returning students; identify opportunities for new short courses; work with Joint & Vice Principals to manage client relations for external, bespoke training for individual or corporate clients and oversee delivery.
  • Senior Production Coordinator: work with Facilities Manager to oversee volume of course related productions and directly line manage the Senior Production Coordinator. This necessitates oversight of: locking scripts; budgets; schedules; risk assessments; call sheets; recces; shoot health & safety; production guidelines; contracts; production folders; production logistics; transport; catering; data transfer & rushes; post production; credits; finance; marketing & exhibition.
  • Work closely with validating partners and Office for Students to ensure robust compliance of all course related activities.
  • Provide leadership and experience to course teams in negotiating unplanned and challenging circumstances relating to individual or group student/tutor issues, film production logistics, or significant unexpected alterations to course delivery.
  • Ensure LFA disciplinary procedures are carried out in line with all relevant policy frameworks. Issue relevant warnings where required.
  • Take a leading role in continued face-to-face engagement with students and enhance the student experience overall. Revise and implement changes to existing induction & graduation events, pursue regular formal and informal feedback and work with the marketing team to ensure regular events take place that ensure the student journey is varied, inspiring and conducive to improving confidence.
  • Manage revision of relevant LFA policy documents, including student & tutor handbooks, production guidelines, programme specifications, module descriptors and assignment briefs.
  • Review and implement more efficient systems relating to course delivery and record keeping; work in tandem with existing programmes, such as Blackboard; and consider student and tutor experience. Enhance communication amongst course coordinators through improved and consistent delivery resources, software and policies.
  • Work with Vice Principal and other LFA staff to increase operational standards that benefit the student experience.
  • Work with Joint Principals & Vice Principal to review and suggest changes to course provision based on research based statistics, market analysis and film industry trends.Essential Experience & Personal Qualities
  • (i) Demonstrable experience (e.g. 5 years) of course management at BA/MA level within a university. or
  • (ii) Experience in senior academic governance role (such as registrar or similar head of studies role)
  • Experience of extensive engagement with national regulatory bodies providing oversight to further education, such as Office for Students, QAA or similar as well as understanding of associated protocols such as reportable events, HESA submissions or any applicable reviews.Demonstrable experience of increasing quality standards
