  • £30,000 - £35,000 per annum
  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday
  • Permanent;Term Time Only
About usWessex Lodge School comprises of three main sites: Wessex Lodge School, the main school where classroom-based activities take place; The Arc, which is mainly for the younger children and Triskele Farm, an alternative provision which is Care farm around 20minutes drive from the main site. We have grown to support 40 students, aged 8-18. The majority of these students are day placements. Each student has individual needs based on developmental challenges, Social Emotional Mental Health difficulties or Autism.We support them using individual plans and the THRIVE approach.The established staff team come from a variety of previous occupations and have individual skills, which can be utilised, within this school. So, if you have an interest and/or qualifications in animal care, horticulture, construction, outdoor education,forestry or any other specific trade or hobby, we would love to hear from you!We are part of Acorn Education and Care and can promise you plenty of challenges, and a rich variety of opportunities to develop your career.We provide Education and Care across a number of schools and residential homes nationally. Our specialist SEN provision, coupled with our expertise within residential care means we offer thousands of vulnerable children across the UK a holistic, wraparoundcare, residential and education service, empowering them with everything they need to flourish.Job Description
  • To safeguard children on ODE activities.
  • To plan and deliver Outdoor Developmental Education (ODE) session at Wessex Lodge School and in the local Somerset/ Mendip/ Baines area.
  • To ensure that programmes are effective and developmental learning is suited to individual needs (SEN) allowing for effective progress and personal growth.
  • To provide access to and experience of ODE activities including Bush craft/ Forest School, Archery or Air Riffle shooting, Climbing, and Paddle sports. These may also include Mountain biking, Caving, sailing, Archery/ Air riffle shooting and walking/ navigation.This list is not prohibitive and applicants with other skills should not be afraid to apply.
Essential
  • An understanding of safeguarding.
  • Experience of teaching young people with SENs
  • Good organisational and verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to respond sensitively to others.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good records of attendance and punctuality
  • Effective record keeping;
  • Understanding of SEN statutes, policies and processes
  • Willingness to undertake further training
  • Experience of liaising with parents and outside agencies.
  • Safeguarding understanding and good practices
  • Experience of how to develop, analyse and implement interventions
  • Working with autism
  • Experience of how to develop implement interventions
  • Understanding of SEN
