Find your future with us.Boeing Defence UK is looking for an Environmental Engineer based at any of our sites, e.g. Bristol, Yeovilor Milton Keynes with some hybrid working options.Background Information:Development of the BDUK Environmental Management capability to meet UK legislative requirements. Environmental Management is a key UK MOD focus area and a legal requirement detailedwithin the initial issue (April 2018) of Defence Standard 00-051 (Environmental Management Requirements for Defence Systems). Environmental Management tasks are becoming a mandatory part of the standard Statement of Requirement from the UK MOD. EnvironmentalManagement requirements and are now applicable to all Defence Contracts. This has been highlighted by our recent success on programmes and proposals, including Autonomous Systems, Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing platforms (including Chinook, AH-64E, P-8A Poseidon,E-7, etc.).This role will be required to be the technical interface on Environmental Management for the customer and authority bases as well as within BDUK and the wider Boeing Company.. This role will also form the technical interface with suppliers to ensurethat appropriate Environmental Management requirements are flowed to these suppliers and sub-contractors, as well as performing review, comment and approval of supplied Environmental Management artefacts.The role of Environmental Engineer at BDUK: ProvideEnvironmental Management expertise for BDUK programmes to assist the integration of Environmental Management considerations within the design and development of BDUK Products, Systems and Services. The successful candidate for this role will be required tosupport the refinement of a coherent Environmental Management Strategy for BDUK programmes in compliance with relevant legislation and MOD Requirements defined in Defence Standard 00-051, Issue 1, taking due cognisance of the guidance provided within the UKMOD Project Oriented Environmental Management System (POEMS).The successful candidate for this role will represent BDUK and, potentially, the wider Boeing Company at Boeing Environmental Management forums and be the technical point of contact for EnvironmentalManagement subject matter experts within the customer or authority delivery teams.Joining part of a growing team of Environmental and Safety Engineers and reporting to the BDUK Environmental Lead and the System Safety and Environmental Manager, the role hasthe following key responsibilities:1. Assist the EHS team on individual programmes in supporting the BDUK Environmental Management System and to comply with appropriate UK Environmental Management legislation.2. Assist the development of EnvironmentalManagement strategies appropriate to each project or programme resulting in a cogent Environmental Case which shall include the following, as required by the project or programme-specific Environmental Management Plan or Strategy: Development of EnvironmentalManagement PlansDevelop a register of relevant Environmental Management standardsIdentification of Environmental Management stakeholdersProduce Environmental Management Feature MatricesProduce Environmental Impact Screening and Scoping StatementsInfluencethe selection, design, usage and disposal of products and services through all relevant life cycle phasesDerivation of Environmental Management design requirementsDevelopment of Environmental Case Reports3. Liaison with other Boeing, customer and suppliertechnical disciplines to ensure appropriate evidence is available to support the Environmental Management strategy.4. Review of supplier Environmental Management deliverables.5. Support Environmental Management Committee and Working Group meetings.6.Support customer and supplier Environmental Management meetings.7. Provide Environmental Management support to the System Safety programme including support to System Safety Working Groups or other associated meetings.8. Present Environmental Managementinputs to requirements and design reviews.9. Participate in task-level programme planning, estimating and support for Environmental Management activities.10. Identify risks, issues and opportunities and support the development of mitigation plans.Requiredcompetencies:Experience of Environmental ManagementA member of or working towards a recognised Environmental Management professional bodyThe candidate should be able to demonstrate the ability to plan work and develop/use meaningful metrics to evaluate EnvironmentalManagement status and provide performance visibilityAble to effectively execute assigned Environmental Management tasking and seek opportunities to improve strategies, processes and project plansThe role will have significant UK MOD and wider Boeing interfaceand therefore a person who is diplomatic whilst being strong minded is required. Some UK and US travel may be requiredThe candidate will be required to pass a BPSS to take up this appointmentHighly Desirable competencies:The candidate should be preferablydegree qualifiedDemonstrable experience in the application of Environmental Management in defence programmesExperience of working within the System Safety domain would be considered to be a significant advantageWork Authorisation: This requisition is for alocally hired position in the UK. Candidates must have current legal authorisation to work immediately in the United Kingdom. Boeing will not attempt to obtain Immigration and labour sponsorship for any applicants.
