Job Description

We are looking for a part-time District Secretary to join one of the largest and oldest Friendly Societies in the UK. This is a work from home position covering the Beds & Bucks district which includes Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, North Hertfordshireand Northamptonshire.About the Hours & SalaryIn the role of District Secretary, you will be expected to work on your own initiative (after training), with a flexible approach and working an average of 45 hours per month.Hours may include some weekend and evening work in line with the Societys service delivery. Initially on a 6-month probation period, the salary will be £13.88 per hour, which is £7500 per annum. Please only apply if you are happy to do these hours.About the CompanyOur clients target market is largely 50+ and support members to develop friendships, have fun and take part in a great social life. Their active involvement is underpinned with a range of care and financial products and services to support theirmembers.About the RoleAs District Secretary, the principal aim is to help and support the District to be financially and administratively strong. This includes supporting the volunteer Committee of Management to deliver on the membership package, supporting the deliveryof the social element of the Society to its target market, while bringing in new members, marketing and promoting the organisation, supporting volunteering and helping them to grow. In this role you will focus on financial and administrative elements of running the District and duties include:

  • Day-to-day bookkeeping
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements
  • Supporting a volunteer Committee of Management to be able to steer and govern the society
  • Promote the Society in the local area
  • Develop active involvement of members
  • Build relationships with the local community
The PersonWe are looking for a District Secretary who is friendly, outgoing and organised, with an ability to work to deadlines and without close supervision, delivering on measurable targets.You must have/be:
  • A peoples person with excellent communication skills
  • Able to speak confidently in front of groups of people
  • Patient and diplomatic
  • Able to negotiate, persuade, organise, plan and manage your own time
  • Computer literate
  • Able to take Minutes
  • Basic accountancy skills
  • Own transport and a clean driving licence
