Job Description

  • Part time 0.6 WTE, 3 days per week which would be 22.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, hours to be worked between 8 am to 6 pm, our client is flexible with choice of days and has some flexibility in start and finish times

  • To be responsible for the provision of information as data expert and system administrator for the surgical database, and an audit and quality improvement service in clinical specialties, in particular in relation to Theatres and Anaesthetic Business Unit activity
  • To extract, analyse and submit data for regular internal and national, monthly and annual surgical audit information obligations
  • To ensure that information metrics are available for Trust Quality/Performance monitoring purposes
  • To support and progress the alignment of National audit/registries and contribute to the quality improvement processes and reporting across the Trust
  • To ensure early escalation of concerns of performance outside of the expected range or below national/locally set targets
  • To support communication systems to celebrate results and encourage frontline teams to demonstrate how they are able to evidence quality care and treatment through quality improvement and audit.
  • To work collaboratively with the Business Intelligence and Information departments within the Trust.
  • Key responsibilities:Data Analysis
  • Interrogate the surgical database and other hospital databases to analyse, interpret and report findings of clinical information for Clinical Audit/Clinical Effectiveness/QI projects and routinely interrogate the surgical database and other hospital databases to provide monthly theatre activity analyses for Theatres, Critical Care and Anaesthetics and other relevant clinical areas
  • To assist manager and other colleagues in analysing and interpreting complex data to produce detailed concise reports, suitable for formal presentation to Clinicians and Managers
  • Provision of monthly presentations for mortality & morbidity monitoring
  • Extract data from clinical information systems and upload the information as stipulated by the receiving institution for mandatory national returns of clinical information. For example the National Institute for Cardiovascular Outcomes Research (NICOR) for cardiac surgery
  • Analyse national audit/registry data to demonstrate the Trusts level of compliance with local and national key performance indicators
  • Responsible for uploading surgical information for mandatory national returns within agreed timescales
  • Support the development, maintenance and monitoring of a Clinical Audit/QI dashboard so that all key internal and external indicators are held centrally
  • Interrogate the surgical database and other hospital databases to electronically analyse data to provide reports in response to ad hoc requests. This requires providing accurate and timely information from complex data sets and engaging with users to identify and clarify their information requirements, providing guidance where appropriate.
  • Amalgamate data sources to provide supplementary information, when required for data analysis.
  • Data Quality
  • Ensure that all metrics are validated internally prior to sharing with external parties. This includes the evaluation of all data fields on the surgical system for errors and anomalies, producing exception reports and escalating appropriately where necessary
  • Validating incomplete data from research of patients’ hospital records other clinical information systems and discussions with medical staff.
  • To investigate and understand data anomalies identified during analyses, instigating corrective action as required inputting any missing data for completeness.
  • Undertake monthly authentication between theatre registers and electronic surgical database
  • Ensure that all internal and external reporting deadlines are adhered to
  • Extract raw data from clinical information database systems and convert into logical and clear visual formats
  • Offer advice and assistance to clinicians and colleagues regarding data entry problems, liaising with manager and medical staff to identify methods for solving data quality issues within the surgical database
  • Ensure the collection of National data meets the requirements of published national guidelines
  • Assist and support the investigating areas of concern with national performance indicators
  • Undertake regular internal validation audits to confirm the reliability of data sources and to identify any inconsistencies
  • Continually review methods of data collection to ensure that they are the most effective and assist with the development of new processes and the enhancement of existing information collection and reporting procedures, in order to meet the changing needs of the users.
