Job Description

The Company:Now PE backed by a prestigious US based firm (Battery Ventures) the group is embarking on an ambitious growth strategy with a large number of planned acquisitions.Goodfellow was established in London in 1946, since then theyve grown operations across France, Germany, the USA and China. They are a specialist supplier of high-quality metal, alloys, ceramics, polymers and other materials, for research, development andspecialist production within science and industry worldwide.BackgroundGoodfellow is a UK-based company with subsidiary operations in the USA, France, Germany andChina. The Company supplies materials which are used for research, development and specialisedmanufacturing applications.Job Overview:The role of the Account Manager is to create opportunities to grow business within the existing customer base, as well as prospecting for and supporting the development of new or high potential customers. This is either an office based or a field-based rolewith the expectation the employee will spend an amount of their time out of the office visiting customers if office or field based.Though managing a portfolio of customers that will most effectively be grown by Internal or External Account Management, they will support (and be supported by) other Account Managers in their region (who themselves will have their own portfolio) and workclosely as a team.The employee would be expected to work to sales targets while maximising both margins and gross sales.

  • There will also be an expectation that the job holder will work with the Regional Sales Manager and Sales Director as well as other members of the sales team to contribute to the strategy and direction of the Sales function.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify new contacts, leads and opportunities within territory & customers base
o Customer enquiry and opportunity management
  • To develop and manage sales with current and new customer
o Proactively identify and respond to potential sales, purchasing or marketing opportunities.o Develop and improve relationships between the Company and existing or potential customers.o Work closely with the Technical Support group to develop opportunities and sales of more complex non catalogue enquirieso To Grow territory & customers revenue while maintaining or increase average margin percentages
  • Supporting other AM (especially when other is traveling or on specific duties)
o Manage the enquiry processing for Cat Extension & Non-Cat productso (Email, Distributors, Agents) (History searching)o Load (items) into Jerico - (Pull through to Cache)o Work with Purchasing/estimating to develop a sales price and send quote to customero Quotation and follow-up with customer (All their A & B Customer, Quotes >£500)o Enquiry queue management for their territory & customerso Customer complaints and issues - Awareness & Overview - (Supporting when needed)o Debt Chasing (when needed)o Customer database management within SalesForceo Electronic filing (Docuware), customer QEs, drawings, etc.o (All A & B Customer, Quotes >£500)o Encourage customers to use the websiteo Participate in Phone days/Marketing days/ Campaigns to retain/regain lost customersAccount Manager - ExternalManaging circa 50 customers (current large sales and future potential growth) primarily through field-based interactions with a travel component of up to 50% of their time.Key Objectives:
  • Ensure that workloads of the department/team are prioritised to meet deadlines set by the business.
  • Remain motivated to perform well and encourage others in the team to do the same
  • Take ownership of tasks and issues that arise and either address these or delegate onto suitable colleagues.

Education/Experience Requirements:
  • Proven track record in the sales arena.
  • Excellent presentation skills including writing and editing Powerpoint or Prezi.
  • Developing influencing, negotiating and relationship building skills both internally and externally.
  • Excellent telephone and listening skills.
  • Experience in and willingness to visit customers face to face on occasion.
  • Ability to teamwork, drive communication and collaboration, ability to work on own initiative, proactive approach
  • Creative and results driven.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
  • Advanced spreadsheet skills, ability to extract and analyse data
  • Undergraduate degree or higher in relevant STEM subjects is desired. Equivalent experience also considered.
  • Experience using CRM and analysing customer data in excel.
  • Knowledge of other languages would be an advantage.
  • Willingness to travel and be away from the office.
  • Well-organized with a customer-oriented approach
