Job Description

JOB TITLE: CleanerREPORTS TO: Site ManagerACCOUNTABLE TO: HeadteacherHOURS: 6 AM TO 9AM Monday to Friday.START: January 2022THE ROLE: To undertake cleaning duties under the supervision of the Site Manager within the premised to ensure high standards of premises care in accordance with cleaning specifications and current Health and Safety legislation.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:To undertake cleaning duties, individually or as part of a team, the cleaning of a designated area(s) and ensure they are kept in a clean and hygienic condition. This will be carried out under the supervision of the Site manager within the premises to ensurehigh standards of premises care in accordance with cleaning specifications and current health and safety legislation.

  1. To be responsible for cleaning designated areas of the school site as allocated by the Site Manager (this may vary from time to time)
  1. The safe use of chemicals and cleaning materials as instructed by the Site Manager following Health and Safety guidelines and the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  1. To operate cleaning machinery in cleaning soft and hard surfaces, eg. vacuum cleaners and polishers following Health & Safety guidelines.
  1. To maintain all School standards of hygiene and safety of all Cleaning equipment and Cleaning Cupboards in your charge.
  1. To report any hazards, defects and any relevant factors of building or environment safety that may be detrimental to safe working practices and normal school operations, immediately to the Site Manager.

  1. Duties to include the following:
  • Vacuum cleaning hard and soft floors
  • Spot cleaning of spillages
  • Wiping surfaces and furniture, ledges, pipes, paintwork, doors and polishing door glass
  • Emptying and cleaning bins
  • Cleaning toilets including sinks and surrounds, sanitary fixtures and fittings
  • Mopping and spray cleaning hard floor surfaces
  • Wiping and polishing and straightening furniture
  • Replenishing janitorial supplies in toilets, etc
  • Checking and closing windows, switching off lights after work
  • Such other duties as may be allocated from time to time
  • All defects and hazards must be reported to the Site Manager
Notes: During periods when the school is closed, routine cleaning is undertaken throughout the school. This may include moving cupboards and tables, high level dusting, wall washing, etc.The role is 15 hours per week (3 hours per day, 6 am to 9 am) paid for 41 weeks per year (38 school weeks plus 3 during school holidays) Person SpecificationCleaner EssentialDesirableEducational achievements, qualifications and training Numeracy and written skills.
