As County Adviser/Assistant County Adviser, you will be coordinating all NFU activity within your area. You will work with elected office holders, the regional team and be a key local source of knowledge as well as being able to offer advice and guidance on matters of policy and NFU membership. You will be able to network effectively, bringing individuals together to energise lobbying campaigns and promote NFU causes. You will support the work of allocated NFU Boards or Forums to ensure that sector views from across the North East Region are fed into national policy.County Adviser Responsibilities:Reporting to the Regional Director, you will manage a diverse team of Group Secretaries, who promote the NFU and its services at a local level. Your role is to manage your group secretary network in order to achieve our membership objectives around income, acres represented and NFU member numbers to grow our representative power. Experience of managing a team is therefore advantageous, although this maternity cover does provide an opportunity for development.Most importantly, you will be able to establish a firm connection with the local membership, and ensure their views are heard. To make that member connection, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current farming issues and a real passion for agriculture, whether gained through your education, your background or your experience. Understanding of agricultural tenancy issues would be advantageous, and knowledge of the local area and its agricultural/land-based industry landscape would be ideal but not essential.County AdviserRequirements:A HND or degree in Agriculture or a related subject would be essential, as is having the understanding of the farming industry and the associated environmental agendas at national and EU levels.You will be comfortable at building strong internal relationships with both colleagues and external stakeholders and have the ability to communicate effectively. An ability to deliver accurate information within set timescales is also important. As a key team player, you will have the ability and enthusiasm to manage a diverse and challenging workload whilst remaining calm and organised under pressure.About NFU:The National Farmers’ Union is the voice of British farming, and our members are at the heart of what we do.
