Job Description

This leading fashion brand was established in 2000, in London, as a stall within Camden Market is now looking for a Product Development Manager to join their team in London. Over the past 20 years, they have grown to have two London based shops, and anotherboutique in Brighton. They design and make their own clothing & all prints are unique to them and created in-house. The brand specialises in 1940s and 1950s reproduction, pin-up style, and rockabilly pieces. However, the range has grown organically to appealto a much wider audience than their initial niche.A key role to support the department, including management of their Garment Technologists and manage the sampling and development process end to end, from design to sealed sample. Working across their teams in the UK and the far east the Product DevelopmentManager should advise on the product and process, collaborating with creative, design development, merchandising and production areas of the business.Key Responsibilities:

  • To manage and drive Critical Path (CP) ensuring protos and costs are ready for selection and fit meetings
  • Line management of the garment technologists, production & garment tech assistant
  • Working on 1st costings for designs: ready for selection/buys meetings and line sheet presentation
  • Collaborate with Merchandising to analyse previous styles
  • Planning and managing teams workload, schedule and budget
  • Development of all facets for fully factored garments including trims / linings / colour approvals & daily correspondence for ongoing development of range in collaboration with the design team
  • Ensure all businesses are updated on all changes / amends / cancellations / throughout the season on any sample
  • Sit in all fits for range and ensuring that the sample is sealed within the development time frame
  • Work with Designers / Trim Buyer / Fabric buyer for CMT & FOB, to ensure the end product is within target price
  • Liaise with Garment tech teams on changes to fit alongside design teams
  • Periodically reviewing and maintaining brand/trims/packaging guidelines
Price Negotiation & Retails:
  • Lead price negotiations with worldwide suppliers in Asia, Middle and Europe
  • Check all final costings, and ensure final Wholesale & Retail is within target
  • Benchmarking and cross costing with suppliers to make sure the best margin/service level is obtained within the business
Key Responsibilities:
  • Create and track KPI of suppliers alongside production to review supplier performance annually
  • Deliveries - negotiate deliveries and ensure these are kept on track with regards to fitting / issues before passing over to production
  • Keep critical path spreadsheet updated with direction from the Head of Sourcing & Production
  • Management of the team of Garment Technicians and the Assistants
Key Requirements:
  • Passion for the industry with at least 5 years experience in product development, preferably in womenswear
  • Have a good and commercial eye for detail
  • Knowledge of commercial testing and product compliance a plus
  • Experience working on CMT and FOB terms
  • Experience working with multicultural supplier base
  • Past experience managing a small team
  • A self starter with strong problem solving skill and time management
  • A great team player with good communication skills
