Job Description Electronics Hardware Engineer Derby / Solihull / Bristol / HybridFull time Why Rolls-RoyceAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Electronics Hardware Engineer to join Rolls Royce Electrical (RRE) working in Battery Management Systems (BMS).In your role, you will drive the continued development of the BMS hardware technology and support the wider BMS and battery teams to ensure we have a product of the highest quality and reliability.Your role requires an in-depth knowledge of all facets of hardware design and lifecycle management for safety-critical applications, such as: requirements capture, conceptual design and functional decomposition; electronics hardware design to meet the performance,functional, certification, safety, and environmental requirements; validation and verification methods; configuration and quality management.RRE is a separate operating business unit within Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, with a global footprint focussing on developing complete electric propulsion systems for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) and commuter aircraft, as well as supportingour Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems business units. Current activities in RRE are focused on the development of more-electric, hybrid and full electric propulsion systems, including electrical power generation, power conversion, energy storage,and electrical power distribution.At Rolls-Royce Electrical, were at the forefront of cutting-edge electrical power and propulsion technology.   • Define the BMS circuit and instrumentation architecture to meet the unit requirements.
  • Capture hardware requirements and interface definitions.
  • Perform the schematics design, component selection, and circuit board layout.
  • Perform design validation, including tolerance, safety, accuracy analysis.
  • Provide technical guidance and contribute towards the hardware certification (DO-254) and qualification documentation.

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent, ideally with Chartered Engineer status.
  • Extensive experience with hardware design for BMS or similar system, i.e. a highly instrumented system with complex thermal, mechanical, and electrical interactions.
  • Good familiarity with circuit design and analysis tools, ideally with Altium Designer and PSpice.
  • Familiarity with designing PCBs to international quality standards such as IPC 2221, 2222, etc.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards such as DO-254, ARP4754A, and ARP4761 or their equivalent is desirable
