Job Description Electrical and Electronic Engineer -Embedded Controls Derby Full timeWhy Rolls-RoyceAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Electrical and Electronic Engineer -Embedded Controls to join our team in Derby, working on developing high-integrity embedded control solutions for electrical power conversion applications. In this highly technical role, you will be responsible for the design, modification, and test of electronic circuits,complex PCB layout, as well as coding for FPGA and DSP targets.This role requires in-depth knowledge of hardware design and lifecycle management, such as: requirements capture, conceptual design and functional decomposition; electronics hardware design to meet the performance, functional, certification, safety, andenvironmental requirements; validation and verification methods; configuration and quality management.Rolls-Royce Electrical (RRE) is a separate operating business unit within Rolls-Royce Holdings plc, having a global footprint that supports all our operating sectors of Civil Aerospace, Defence, and Power Systems.   • Perform schematics design, component selection, and circuit board layout.
  • Design, analyse and test the electronic analogue and digital circuits.
  • Write code to target DSPs and/or FPGAs and verify.
  • Integrate verified hardware into the wider system and support wider test campaign.
  • Support the development of processes to support aerospace product development.

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Engineering or equivalent, ideally with Chartered Engineer status.
  • Significant experience in embedded controls design, ideally for safety-critical applications.
  • Good familiarity with circuit design and analysis tools, ideally with Altium Designer and PSpice.
  • Experience with designing complex PCBs to international quality standards such as IPC 2221, 2222, etc.
  • Experience with VHDL and embedded C and C++ is highly desirable.
  • Experience in electrical machine control development is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with aerospace standards such as DO-254, DO-178C or their equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication skills (i.e., verbal, written, and presentation) for both expert and non-expert audiences.
