Job Description

A leading contract manufacturer,highly experienced across a diverse range of industry sectors from aerospace and defence to automotive, motorsport and space are seeking a Design Manager to join their team in Derby. From tooling design and 5-axis CNCmachining to composite mould making, component production, painting & lacquering, they offer a turnkey build-to-print service and works with multiple well-known, blue-chip organisations globally.As a Design Manager you will:

  • Coordinate and manage all the work, encouraging internal and external teams (sub-contractors) to ensure the drawings and designs are produced on time, to a high quality, and are easy to interpret, manufacture and build.
  • Manage ownership, development, and maintenance of existing ISO9001, AS9100 and IATF16949 processes.
  • Design composite moulds, press tools and all other tooling including jigs & fixtures.
  • Collaborate with the NPI and Continuous improvement team on the shop floor to develop tooling solutions to improve quality and productivity.
  • Create GD&T engineering drawings for both parts and assemblies to support all manufacturing processes.
  • Create bills-of-materials for both parts and assemblies to support all manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical information & support for sales, manufacturing, and inspection processes.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the team through proactive planned on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes including objective setting and KPIs.
  • Liaise closely with customers and colleagues regarding activities, technical requirements, reviews, specifications and timescales.
  • Rapidly integrate into the engineering & production teams.
We are seeking a Design Manager with the following:
  • Qualified to UK degree / HND in design / mechanical engineering discipline, or engineering apprenticeship plus HND and relevant experience.
  • Previous experience working within the composites industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of Catia v5.
  • Working knowledge of PDM/PLM systems.
