Job Description

An experienced CNC Machinist with preferably 5 years of experience is needed to join the team at Pentaxia based in Derby on a full-time basis.Pentaxia is one of the leading UK companies in the rapidly expanding Advanced Composite market. We work with a range of market sectors, from aerospace to medical, from Motorsport to luxury automotive.You will be a key member of the machine shop team and will actively be involved in the creation, development and proving of CNC programmes, the self-inspection and production of the quality components.The selected candidate will report directly to the CNC Machining Section Lead, and the work will be divided into shifts, i.e. morning and evening shifts.This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established company and progress your career!About UsThe Company is family owned and is going through a significant investment phase within the machining department. Wherever possible, we promote from within the Company, but this role covers areas where we are introducing additional processes and approvalsand we feel the Company will benefit from recruiting a person with relevant previous experience.Pentaxia has a dynamic Management Team with a “can do” mentality, and we are seeking someone who wants to thrive in such an environment.Key Responsibilities:

  • To operate CNC machines
  • Prove out programmes at the machine
  • To set CNC machines for production runs in both manned and unmanned periods
  • Working in a manner which is safe for everyone in the machine shop
  • Assist planning to maximise utilisation of machines and manpower
  • To work on my own initiative and understand the manufacturing process
  • To work to tight tolerances and check own work
  • To work, following training, on customer drawings and specifications
  • Report any tooling requirements to the Machine Shop Section Lead
  • Collaborating with line management and engineering support in any initiative to continuously improve the performance of the machine shop
  • Performing routine machine maintenance checks and completing check sheet records
  • Perform elements of self-inspection, filling out inspection records as required
Required Skills:
  • Familiar with Fanuc controls an advantage
  • Skill in operating CNC machinery and tooling, as well as precision measurement tools
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical documents and drawings
  • A keen eye for detail and a results-driven approach
  • Good communication abilities
  • Enthusiastic with a can-do attitude
  • Work well as a part of a team and prepared to be flexible to meet the needs of the team and customer demand
  • First-class understanding of CNC machine operation in a manufacturing environment
  • Good understanding of appropriate tool selection
  • Experience working in a composite manufacturing environment or similar with a strong emphasis on product quality ISO9001/AS9100 is preferred
  • Willing to work shifts
  • Successfully completed apprenticeship is required
Required Experience:
  • Certificate of Higher Education (preferred)
  • Proven experience as CNC Setter / Operator
  • CNC Machining: 5 years (preferred)
  • United Kingdom (required)
  • High school diploma or equivalent; certificate or diploma in engineering or relevant discipline is a plus
