Applications are invited for a new post to join a complement of 7 Consultants Gastroenterologists responsible for the provision of Gastro-intestinal services to the population of Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot based at Morriston Hospital.The post initially involves acute medical on call at Morriston Hospital, where the post holder will join 22 Consultant Physicians at Morriston Hospital providing acute general medical on call, whilst plans to deliver an acute GI Bleed rota mature (target date April 2020). The post holder will also be joined by 7 GI consultants from other hospitals in the health board providing out-patient GI and endoscopy services. This post would be suited for a person with special interest in IBD, Liver or Luminal Gastroenterology.The Gastroenterology Department in the health board provides all aspects of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, except transplantation, and enjoys excellent Surgical and Multidisciplinary Team support. There is a dedicated Endoscopy Unit and excellent Radiology facilities. There are opportunities for research and to undertake teaching of Undergraduate students as part of the Swansea University College of Medicine. We have close links with Swansea University and other University College partners in South Wales especially in the areas of research & development and multi-professional teaching.This is an exciting time to be joining the health board, as developments and reconfiguration continue as a part of the ARCH program in the not too distant future all medical emergencies for Swansea, Neath & Port Talbot will be admitted onto the Morriston site. There are plans for a single gastroenterology department with acute work in Morriston hospital and a network of elective and ambulatory services provided in other hospitals in the locality.Consultants in the SBU-HB benefit from a flexible approach to working practices. We place great emphasis on continuous professional development and will actively support you in the development and achievement of personal goals.Active commitment to audit and clinical governance within the department will also be encouraged.
