Job Description

A leading manufacturer in North Birmingham is looking for an experienced Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to join their Business on a 12-month fixed term contract. Paying an attractive salary of £50,000 this role offers variety and the opportunityto really make the role your own! Reporting to the Manufacturing Operations Manager, the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager role is to effectively manage all aspects of Health, Safety and Environmental driving the implementation and continuous improvement for all policies, procedures and strategies and legal compliance obligations.Your duties will include:

  • Work within the companys core values Quality, Innovation, a complete offer, attention to detail, care of the environment, competitive enterprise, global capability, unique product, ease of use in all work-related activities.
  • Understand company objectives and strive to meet or exceed the KPIs and metrics.
  • Champion safety walks across the site, improve the organisations understanding of Health and Safety.
  • Responsible for risk assessments and dynamic risk assessments, incorporating Toolbox talks when needed.
  • Responsible for training, coaching & mentoring all employees to create a Safety-First culture.
  • Create and Lead the Health and Safety monthly meeting and assign responsibility for addressing meeting outcomes
  • Senior Radiation Protection Supervisor (RPS) formulating local rules and reporting issues direction to the Radiation Protection Advisor
  • Dangerous Goods Safety Officer (DGSO) overseeing and managing shipping rules
  • Fire Registrar responsible for completing the evacuation register and liaising with emergency services
  • Spill responder overseeing prompt and efficient spill control and reporting any external issues to the environmental agency
  • Person Responsible for Racking Safety (PSSR) arranging statutory inspections and following up corrective actions
  • Ensuring compliance to potential environmental impacts and ensuring safety standards are assessed and controlled as far as is reasonably practicable.
  • Approving contractors RAMS forming the contractor selection process and signing off work permits for hot works and confined spaces
  • Provide guidance and information to management and employees on HSE legislation
  • Create, Implement and monitor environmental & sustainability strategy, conduct environmental aspects and impacts assessments
  • Arranging statutory and insurance thorough examinations (LOLER / PUWER / LEV)
  • Carry out COSHH assessments
  • Working closely with the Quality Manager ensuring the effectiveness of the management systems for by managing investigation of route cause analysis, corrective action, incident/accident, to achieve continual improvement.
  • Coordinating the management systems calendar including an appropriate drill programme for necessary emergency response procedures. (Evacuation, spills)
  • Take up regular review of the legal and other Health and Safety requirements through consultation with HSE Guidelines and associated publications, reporting any relevant changes to management
  • Supporting engineers assess new processes and machinery to ensure risk is reduced as far as reasonably practicable at the earliest possible design stage.
The ideal Health, Safety and Environmental Manager will have the following skills:
  • Minimum NEBOSH H&S general certificate or equivalent
  • NEBOSH Environmental Management certificate or equivalent
  • Membership of a professional body, ideally related to Safety and Environment
  • Familiar with established management tools, project and planning techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of current Safety standards
